last week i went to an aquarium. i was lucky enough to see the piranhas feed, wow .

they were huge because they were in such a massive tank, they had a planted 1000 g tank with reeds.

to my surprise when i was watching them a large chunk of meat arrived from the sky, and with in a 1000th of a second nearly 20 gaint piranhas had descended on the meat shreding it to pieces and within 20 seconds it was gone and in fell some 4-5inch fish what ever these were i felt sorry for them because as soon as they were spoted a pack of 5 would descend on them are tear them to pieces in seconds, in was incredible, after this a few more pieces of meat or whatever they were went in.

all i can say is good luck to whatever meets these on a dark day under the water.

yeah, I went to my local public aquarium where they have a piranah tank which must measure about 10' square and 3' deep. it is densly planted with java fern and java moss on wood and there is a terrestrial bit (if thats what you call it) above the water like a jungle densly planted. any way, I had a look at the feeding time and day and it happened to be in 5 mins time so I stayed and watched. anyway, this guy came in with a big lump of meat on a stick lowered it into the water and the piranahs swam up to it and started to take little bites out of it. they didn't go mad like you see on T.V. just like any normal community fish. i was expecting them to fly at it and shred it to the bone in about a minuit. the cardinal tetras seemed more agressive that the piranah.

Oh man, what a letdown. Usually if the piranhas are well fed they don't act like that. Just like swimming in the same water as them, if they're full they won't bother you at all but if they're starving...not a good idea.
