Amanda's Redoing The 38 Gallon

What a transformation! You're doing some really cool things here. I WANT that piece of driftwood! Just the thing I've been trying to find for my 29g which desperately needs something vertical (I keep picturing your driftwood turned 90º clockwise in my tank!).

I didn't know how I'd like the black beauty sand in the tank, but now that you've started filling in the scape I like it a lot. Great job!

Thanks! The store I went to yesterday always has the neatest wood. He said they get it from some guy who goes to Malaysia several times a year and comes back with tons of it. There was another piece there that I loved. It actually caught my eye first, but it would be better suited for the 75 gallon and bigger fish. It didn't have as much "attitude" as this piece, would look better with bigger fish. Wish I had taken a picture of it.

I LOVE the black beauty. I don't think the pictures truly do it justice.

Is the Anubias in the sand?

For now, yes. That will change this weekend.

this is starting to come on a treat

my only worry, would be for the plan to tie the anubias so far up the wood.Being slow growing, they are prone to algae on the leaves, especially if not shaded.Being so close to the light might make things worse, quicker.
Then again, maybe you'll get lucky.

I have some at the very top of my tank and its growing great. Ironically it's the nana at the bottom that has a few specks of algae on them.

Thanks! They will be so close to the water line they will be growing emersed. They grow faster that way and no worries about algae. :hey:

Exactly... silly isn't it. One is Barteri, the other that has the spots of algae is Barteri Nana... probably 16" further away from the light... Using the Anubias further up in the tank looks excellent in my biased opinion. :D

Loving the wood in there, look like a tree blowing in the wind inn shot 1. :)

Thanks! :D I hope I don't go overboard and wind up blowing the whole look I'm after. Which is a continually morphing image in my head, of course. LOL

Lol I wouldn't expect any less, its typical of all planters :)

Just picked up my rock. Can't wait to get it in! It's soaking now and I'll scrub it later tonight. Gotta take lil man to ChicFilA for a Harvest Festival and costume contest.

All that for $2. She only wanted $1.50. :hyper:

OK, here come the pics. I think there's a bit too much riverstone in there. What do you guys think?

When I placed the red stone I couldn't help but think to myself, "The stone was rolled away and the tomb was empty."

I LOVE how the red stone looks against the black beauty. The white one I don't think I like. It's TOO white. Need a plant I can attach to the top of the cave. The elodea is behind it, but it's so thin you can hardly see it even in person. The bunch I moved to the corner in front of the stone I like. Any suggestions on what I can put on top?

I like the Anubias towards the front of the driftwood ok, not so sure about the one in the back. I'm thinking I'd like it better here... It shouldn't get too much light there as it's under the fixture which is aimed toward the middle.

I also want something that can go here...
MysteryPlant.jpg

It could be attached to the wood, or it could be planted in the sand to grow up THROUGH the wood. It's very holy over there. Could move some hornwort and I guess more anubias would work as it's pretty shady there, but I want something else. What works well in shaded areas that has true leaves other than anubias? I've got enough thin needle like leaf stuff with the hornwort and ambulia. Also have to figure out where to drop in my banana plant (or it could go in the 75, got a bare corner in there as it's been pretty much ignored as I have worked on this one and most of the plants came out of it LOL), but no one has responded as to how I need to go about cleaning it. It's in a bucket right now.

Will be glad when the moss fills in to hide the glue.

Been searching the net for low light plants, and I think I want some Bolbitus Heudelotii. Now to find it.
