The last time I had a nitrite problem, I did just what WD suggested and changed so much water I had to be careful to leave enough for the fish to swim in. I must say that it really set things straight in a hurry since so little water was left behind for the new water to try to dilute. My fish didn't appreciate the low water much but they really perked up when they had good water to swim in.
