Albino Finally Here

Sexy or what :D He looks even better in 'real life' :D The lightings a bit of an issue, no flash photography I presume? Although I'd imagine very tanniny water and floating plants would help a lot. Now imagine, how cute will little miniature albino babies be?

He looks sweet.. Is he not just a VT though?? :/ I imagine you'll get a spawn full of VT babies, none of which will be albino! Are you aiming to breed albinos too? Cos surely thats not a good thing?!!

Not wanting to offend anyone or anything, but with all the problems that fish has should you be actively trying to breed more like him?!!

Nope, he's a CT, with his rays not very well developed yet by the look of it. And theres a chance that there will be albino babies, theres just no way of knowing which siblings are heterozygous without breeding all of em. Health problem wise, when you consider it, most average bettas have health problems bought on by breeding, long finnage means harder to swim, some are neuroticly aggro, spinal deformities.... The eyesight problem isn't as bad as it sounds, and any albino fry with really bad eye problems will be removed via natural selection.

 lovely fish. You got those betta pellets behind your fish. I had mine wedged in between the tanks and it drives my boys mad..they flare at them...must be the silver paper

He's def. not a VT. See how he holds it? Even top and bottom, no extra weight on the bottom half. Its a delta. I'm rooting for you synirr, I hope the spawning goes well and you get some albinos.

I put a small pot in a few of my betta tanks... they go in there when they don't feel like being bothered by anyone.. Might be something to try with mr albino rhino.

It's CT guys, CT... not VT or delta!
He's still young and his rays may never be anything to boast about, there's no telling, but he comes from pure CT lines and his sisters show it for sure. The breeder specializes in CTs apparently, that's about all I ever see come out of him on Aquabid. I'll take better pics of the girls in a minute, they're cute as buttons

...no flash photography I presume?
Actually I did use flash, but I only took 4 pics . Couldn't get a clear shot without it with my cam, at least not without bright lighting, which would have been worse.

I'm going to be selectively breeding for those with the best eyesight and such, the eventual goal being a strong, healthy albino line that is fairly light resistant. It's a myth that all albinos are completely without pigmentation, and chances are that any albino betta that is able to survive to adulthood in a normal spawn does have a little melanin production in order to develop semi-normally, so you can select for this, and this limited melanin production is what gives them resistance to light etc (though you won't be able to see it with the naked eye, the fish still appears albino.) I'm expecting high mortality rates in the 1-2 week old albino fry (should I ever have any) since some will have trouble catching food, but fry at that age are still fetal anyway, so pardon if I don't feel too bad about that.

If you don't like me breeding albinos, you must REALLY hate opaques! Opaque bettas are basically bettas with gout. Almost all go blind as they age, since the opaque layer covers their eyes, and the opaque layer continues to get thicker over time so it weighs them down and sticks their fins together. Eventually their spines deform and they experience organ failure and whatnot.... basically, they all die young, and yet they are a common and highly sought-after colour form. I heard all this from an opaque breeder.

EDIT:

I've got a little house for him made out of a pot in there, but he prefers to patrol around the sides of the tank with his nose to the surface most of the time. I think this is probably how he knew it was feeding time when he was at the breeder's, hopefully he'll start to calm down once he figures out our system of me tapping the tank at dinner time.

He probably had to stay close to the surface as a youngin', or he'd miss out! What an interesting creature he is, I hope he works out for ya!
