I knew today would be a sad day for me but I didn't realise how much. I took ten juvenile albino cories I raised in my tank to the aquatic shop to be rehomed by them. So when I arrived at the shop and explained what I had with me they took my bucket off Dave and went into the office to speak to the manager (or whoever was in there). Another guy came out the office and took the two bags away to another building they have to keep new fish for awhile before they go on sale. And that was it. Nobody said nothing, not even thanks, and I was just stood there like a twat with a bucket in my hand.

So Dave and I went for a look round the shop cuz I wasn't wanting to leave without them saying something first. (A few months back a girl in the shop said I would get a credit voucher or some fish in exchange). And I was just getting more upset as time went on. So in the end I was just gonna walk out and if Dave hadn't said anything to them I wouldn't have got anything. I guess that was the plan. They were maybe hoping I wouldn't say anything so they could make more of a profit. (the sell albino cories for £2.99, so if all survived they would get a £30 profit).

So I walked away with a £7.50 credit voucher and was majorly disappointed, and those of you from Scotland, totally skunnered and started greeting on the way home in the car. I don't think I want to go back there now which means I probably won't get anymore fish, as we all know what pets @ home is like.

I was so proud of them and just wanted to see them off and never imagined it would be like this.

Note, I still have the little ones in that picture:

:-( :-( :-( :-(

What a bummer, I don't know how I'll feel when I take my baby betta's to the lf's but I know I won't be happy cause they were my first babies.

Hope you find good homes for the rest of your young with better results :-(

Sorry to hear that it was such a bad experience for you! :(
Sad to say, but to the fish store, all fish are simply commodities. They have no personal attachment to them otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell the fish!! Instead of dwelling on the store personnel, try to imagine how happy your little cories are going to make some other fishkeeper!! What adorable little babies they are and some lucky owner may very well become a dedicated cory keeper because of you!!

I know how you feel. I took most of my cories to the LFS today, but they actually are giving me good credit on them. The manager is going to order me some fish in return. I buy most of my fish from this place and most of the people who work there have lots of fish tanks, so they know how it is. Your cories look great and I know they are spawning very well for you. I guess you will just have to raise another batch to replace the ones you took today

Sorry you had a bad experience, Lynz781. That's probably the biggest con about breeding; we just can't keep them all. I don't think I would ever breed fish myself. But I'm sure those guys will get new homes soon and get picked up at that LFS.

Thanks everyone, made me feel better :). Still got more baby albinos and peppers, but I think I'll be keeping them
Really hope the ones I gave away today are settled for just now. Seeing as their mum and dad came from pets at home, they will be toughies :D.

i tend to give my babies away to friends rather than sell them to pet shops, that way i know they are going to a good home, maybe you could try that, or even sell them to friends for a little bit cheaper than they sell them in the petshops

I would, but I don't know many fish owners in Fife. I'll just not be giving any to the shop anymore. The whole experience felt horrible. It's terrible, when I see eggs I want to hatch them!!!!!!

Bit late but just remembered about this thread.

Oh boy that was a pants experience and I wasnt the one who had spent hours apon hours raising the babies from the day they appeared as eggs so I can understand why Lynz was upset. :-(

It was very awkward. We went in and I put the bucket on the counter and Lynz explained she had send a email and they said we could bring them in. The guy took the bucket, into the door next to him, grabbed to the bags out the bucket, gave them to the other guy, back out the door, gave the bucket back to me and then went and stood behind his till again. :/  So he looked at us, we looked at him. mmm do they just get put in a tank through the back I said trying to break the silence. Yes was the reply. He looks at us, we look at him. (Thinking what about money? Dont you want to know where these fish came from? How old they are? We could have just went and got them out the local pond for all you know buddy  ) Wasnt sure what to say so said to Lynz will we go and have a look around. (Give us time to talk about what just happened)

Was really busy in the tank bit. On the way back out I said to Lynz will you say something or will I. Dunno. So I said right im doing it but it was the usual helpful woman that was on the desk by that time who has been there everytime we've been in so she was fine and sorted us out. We'd never seen the guy before so I assume he was new and didnt know what to do - I hope anyway, even then he could have talked at least.

I would still email them Lynz and explain what happened, appology or another voucher wouldnt go wrong. :S

i know how you feel! we took 25 of our biggest swordie babies to our lfs a few weeks ago & i found it quite upsetting ( i know im being a pathetic girlie but cant help it) i hated handing them over & didnt want to leave them but i know we couldnt keep them. the rest are now about size to go too & im dreading doing the same thing again.i might have to stay in the car this time!!!! but im sure your gorgeous little corys will get good homes.
