When I was purchasing mine, I read that Tetratec's have a known issue with the diaphragm and fail pretty often, but they are quiet.
But I decided to go for an Eheim 400 after reading reviews. I don't know about the smaller models but this one makes no noise whatsoever, still ticking away in the sitting room on top of a tank.
