i'm certain similar threads have been done in the past, but i couldn't find it, so please bear with me here.

i'm switching to a sponge filter in my killifish tank, more fry friendly, so i'm looking for the quietest air pumps out there. i've tried top fin, too much vibration. if you all could just list ones you've used in the past, and what you thought of them (good, quiet, too loud, not enough power, etc) i'd appreciate it. this is for a 10 gal tank by the way.

thanks!

I use clearseal ac902
I have three in my bedroom, which is where all my tanks are.
I find them to be very quiet.
I run a sponge filter with a hi-tec 1500, this is sufficiant for the job and also very quiet.
HTH

Quietest ones I've come across are the Interpet Airvolution ones. I have an AV4 which is the biggest in the range and it is quiter than my Rena 100 which is tiny!!!

Thanks for posting this-I'm going to add a small sponge filter to my 20g so I can use it for a quarantine tank. I hate my whisper pump-it's so loud.

Is a powerhead used for the same purpose as a pump? If so are they quieter?

Really, I don't use one now, but when I was a kid (20 years ago) I had a whisper pump. Of course things change but it lasted a long time and was very quiet. Have you tried changing locations of your pump? Is it on a level surface? Maybe you can place it on a folded towel to dampen any vibrations.

Cann't hear my small AV1 at all from interpet - unless its 'walked' a little and vibrateing against something :/

Have a look at THIS ARTICAL - may help :)

www :)

my whisper pump is loud and i switched to a rena, i find renas quiet but i guess all i can do is compare it to my old whisper

I always used Rena, but had a load of Aquarian "Whisper" pumps given to me. They are all reasonably quiet, by todays standards. I used to use Marvel piston pumps, silent, effective and no "walking". Can't get them anymore - such is progress.

i have an aquaculture which i can hear from my room at this very moment.

I use an Elite 800 airpump, and it's very quiet; I reccomend one of those. There are bigger and smaller models in the same series to suit your needs.
