Hello all,

Im setting up my planted tank, its a 55gal with Co2 setup and so on, what i wanted to nkow is does it need a air pump and stone? Is it worth getting one for the fish and the plants alike?

Cheers for any help you can give.

Rob :)

Fish would appreciate the extra Oxygen from the increased surface agitation. If you have bigger fishes that will be a plus. Airstones are also good for combating algae outbreaks.

But you have to remember that the increased surface agitation from the airstones will decrease CO2 levels.

Basically, it's a compromise...

Not a good idea, you would pump all that CO2 in and then take it all out with your airstone.....

Plus, the CO2 will help your plants grown and photosythesis, which will inturn produce O2 for the little fishies, you can see it bubble off with CO2 being added to the tank, pretty

Only thing to remember is that plants produce CO2 at night with no light. But wont be enough to starve fish of O2.

I have no surface aggitation and no CO2, but my plants produce enough O2 for my fish.

OK thanks for the advice everyone!

Ill leave the air stone for now, see how it all goes in the future
