Aiptasia

I have just seen something that Im not sure is aiptasia or not, I turned my powerhead off to float my cuc and think when the flow was off it decided to show itself. It was in a crack in the rock, had long tentacle type things similar to pics I have seen of aiptasia, my question comes because it isnt the brown colour as in pics at all it is just a white clear colour.

Can't tell as the pic is out of focus. All I can make out is a type of shell that is encrusted onto the rock which might turn out to be a vermatid snail.

As for the aiptasia you described it does sound like a glass anemone.

Any possibility of a better pic?

I can't really tell what's going on in the pic, but Aiptasia are not obligate photosynthesizers, so they often appear in a "bleached" state as white or clear and will be getting nutrients by filtering particulates and small animals out of the water. If put under light for long enough they will usually color up and become brown with zooxanthellae. Sometimes bands and other lightly colored markings will be more visible on white/clear animals and will seem to dissappear as the brown color takes over.

lights have been on for 4 hours so its had light.

How long would I need to wait to see if it turns brown or is it days it takes?

Also I can't see a shell haha but there are loads of bits on my LR that looks shell shaped haha

Re-establishing zooxanthellae is a long process in nems, easily taking weeks and sometimes longer depending on the conditions. So, I wouldn't wait to see if it turns brown before determining whether it warrants removal.

I have just been reading threads that pop up when searching for aiptasia on google and have seen people say its a feather duster not aiptasia but I got no clue!

its nothing like any of the aiptasia that i have cremated, but i'm still a novice so dont take my word for it

Thank you for the pic, its gone now so I cant compare until it pops back out again lol but it doesn't look quite the same
