i have had my african filter shrimp for about six months now and just recently moved it to a diffrent tank (bit larger) , but now he has gone missing ,the new tank has sand where the other had fine gravel is it possible for them to dig themselves completly into the sand , i hope he turns up soon

I've never known mine to bury themselves completely but they are brilliant at hiding. Mine can usually be found hanging upside down under the mopani wood. Check inside your filter as i have found mine in there before.

yes they are great hiders.
you have to check everything if you really want to find him.
personally I'd not worry about it. they do not like living out of
water and wouldn't have climbed out. he is in there somewhere.

Being such a big shrimp, I think you will notice if it dies. I mean the smell.

It might be a good idea to build perfect hiding place to it to some place you can see it. I did and now I see two of mine almost always I look into the tank.

i last saw him on monday ,now its wednesday afternoon, getting worried now i have lifted the bits of wood ,looked in the filter ,and proded the bumps in the sand with a fish net and still no sign. on the plus side its been pretty hot and cant smell anything ,the reason why im worried is because i rencently bought this tank off ebay and it had a hole cut in the corner for a sump tank and i didnt cover it because i thought no rush because of the good two and a half inches between the top of the water and the hole.

by the way it is now covered but no sign of armidillo my giant african filter shrimp

its now been 4 days since the last time i seen armildillo my giant african filter shrimp and fear the worst :-(

now over a week since i have seen him and have now replaced him with tiny one about a third his size. he is about an inch and a half. he is a lot braver and doesnt shy away so much

one day i might find his body somwhere poor little guy

r.i.p armidillo :rip:

I lost my shrimp for about 2 weeks, they werent giant africans, but as everyone says shrimp are excellent hiders, I checked under wood under plants, everywhere, and actually gave up on them, im sure yours will turn up!

i hope he does too but in a 35 gallon tank where do you hide a 4 inch shrimp, unless he has buried himself in the sand i dunno where he could be.

at least if he does turn up he will have a friend :D
