he is one of these guys,

It says here that there maximum size is 15 inches, and I also read on another spread sheet that they only get about a foot. The owner of my local pet store breeds them I doubt he is lying to me. Are you absolutely sure we are talking about the same fish? He is a little aggressive but compared to the cichlids he isn't too bad he has always been at the bottom of the pecking order. If you are sure I would like a second opinion and then I would appreciate instructions on how to go about solving this problem, thank you.

I may be wrong, i've not kept them myself before, always liked the look of them but not got one because of the size. if you want confirmation it's probably best to post in the catfish section for advise, there's a few monster catfish keepers on this forum who should be able to help you out.

there are different species of clarius and maybe yours doesn't get so big. however i saw one in an lfs a year or so ago with the mottled markings and i think it's the same species as yours, that was certainly bigger than a foot, probably nearly 2 :/ this was a while ago though so i couldn't go back and check or anything. :/

sorry i wasn't meaning to scaremonger or anything, just warning you as you didn't seem entirley convinced about what he was so thought it'd be worth while saying so you look into it.

mentions here 40/50cm's adult size so 16-20"

and here someone reports one of 70cm

this actually has interesting info on size in teh wild compared to in aquariums

Well perhaps I should thank you for your concern but like you said a lot of the walking catfishes and some look very similar. Mine had its tail bitten off by one the more aggressive cichlids at a young age. He is a clumsy slow swimmer because of this. One of the cichlids in my tank is already 9 inches long. Whity is about 10 inches and the only fish less aggressive than him is my big lake rift catfish sitting on the bottom. The boss of my tank is a big living stone. I over feed my fish and provide very good filtration so even among the cichlids aggressionhttp://www.fishforums.net/index.php?act=post&do=edit_post&f=22&t=190912&p=1579738&st=0#

Is that all you have to say about my tank? That is a little disappointing! Lol just kidding. You have a nice day. :D

No worries, well the best thing to do is take a little visit down to the pet store tomorrow and talk to Mr. Fish breeder dude. Since my fish isn't going to grow 50 cm over night I think I will ask him for the spices scientific name so that I can look them up on the internet. He is a nice guy, he probably would not mind if I gave whitey back  . Though of course I am quite sure I can keep him. Him and spotty do a good job cleaning up after my cichlids lol. It would be a shame to separate them after all they are such good friends: P though spotty only hangs out with whitey during the dark hours. Well actually that is the only time I ever see him too. Oh well that is a catfish for you. Gotta love em.

Hmmm mbuna 9" think you could be slightly out there mate Crabo is one of the larger species and they get to 8". Also your parrot isnt african and needs completely different water parameters not to mention the fact that one day your mbuna will kill him.

edit: sorry my bad noticed you had haps and a livingstoni in there these will be 9"

LoL All African cichlids are not rock dwellers the big ones are haps silly I feed them both algy wafers and frozen food to keep them all healthy.

I have large rock dwellers as well as dwarf ones. The parrot fish is a hybrid species with no definite water preferences, they prefer neutral to high ph (as well ph is no big deal for fish as long no extrem high or low is expressed, the most important thing is water hardness, and I will have you know both my ph and my water hardness are in good levels. (Ph is at a high of 8.0 and my parrot fish is doing perfectly fine). He packs more aggression per pound than my cichlids. He has no problem defending him self... not that anyone ever bugs him lol you are silly if you think that cichlids are evil killing machines. I have a tiny fire eel in there that I got a month ago and they never bug him. He just keeps growing and growing. He is hard to spot because he is small but he is always swimming around durring the day. (Yes I know they get really big) gosh lol you have some interesting idea's. You know the parrotfish’s daddy is a red devil? They are very adaptable. All my cichlids are hand fed they eat food right out of my hand and the big ones let you pet them including my catfish (which is not a cichlids of course). You probably have a different style of fish keeping than me, but all of my fish get along just fine. I think cichlids are more or less aggressive depending on how your raise them. I have heard horror stories but I Find as long as you keep them very well fed and gives them lots of room and filtration. They have all grown up together and are still growing ( I think).

--------------Right I do notice you made a mistake.

I know that thats why i put mbuna dont grow to 9" it was only re watching your video i realised you dont just have mbuna in there. But seriously you need to out the parrot.

oh and I never said mbunaI said "cichlids" now I really have no clue what you are getting at, you seem a little stressed out. I think you need to calm down and try reading my post... you know with your eyes.

Im not gonna bother arguing with you as most threads end up in a debate but your stocking is all wrong.

I am not too keen on having one. You are not even taking the time to read my posts properly so I don't think arguing would solve much. Remember there is more than one way to do anything and my way seems to be working perfectly fine. You have a nice day. Stay open minded
