Day 7 & Finale.
So I went to check on the pet every 30 minutes yesterday and 6 hours after the water change (6pm) it started to swim.
Up until then it was just floating and looking at it's own reflexion in the mirror.
It also ate the pellets that I gave it. So, it seemed back to normal. I wonder what caused this sudden change of behavoir?
However this morning things still don't look right. I fed it another 5 pellets and he started to swim erratically as though it was looking for something. It kept diving down to the bottom of the jar and was a bit frantic.
Moreover it didn't eat the pellets, only 2 of them which is strange. This is the first time (since Sunday evening when it warmed up) that it's refused it's feed.
On a happy note, the water didn't smell ( water conditioner?) and looked so much cleaner. It was surprising the amount of horrible stuff that came out of such a small jar.
Just to think that the pet was living and swimming in that garbage gives me the creeps.
The sales assistant (he said that he had lots of knowledge and was a member of fish forums) at the garden centre advised me only change 30 % of the water and to remove traces of limestone (there is quiet a lot) with alcohol vinegar which I did not do.
I followed the advise on here. He also went on to say that even if a large (18 l) aquarium was better that bettas could live in smaller jars !
Anyway, I did find two aquariums (one was a cube and the other more oblong shaped) and the cost amounts to approx. 78€ without the re cycling starter, pump and all the various plantes, rocks ect. I think that she owner will drop down dead when I give her the price.
If she were to just buy the aquarium would the heater be the N° 1 accessory to buy? If so, how would she clean out the tank without a filter ? She has little time and is not at home for most of the day.
My question is what would be better for the Betta - a cube shaped aqarium or one that is oblong?
The gentleman also suggested getting life plants as there are apparently better for the flora!??

Another question, it often stipulates that aquariums need a cover as Bettas are jumpers. However, the pet downstairs is uncovered and I've never seen it try to jump. Is this normal behaviour?
The owner is coming back home during the course of the day and I will have just one shot to present her my 'project'.
My life as a 'foster pet mum' is shortly coming to an end.
