am  at Mr Doodles comments, not at you :p

it's fine. I'm laughing at myself today. I was so stressed yesterday!

I've got to repeat the process though at some point. I'm certainly NEVER moving a tank again!

okay... this is a serious question now... I think I know the answer but I guess I'm just seeking reassurance.

I now have a large plastic storage box. It holds a 100 litres and has a good lid. I'm not planning on filling it to the top as I'm a little concerned about it's durability, despite it seeming to be very strong.
Seen as it's taking me so long to catch my fish I was wondering about starting to move fish sooner rather than leaving it until a couple of days before the tank move. As I have two external filters I was planning on moving one filter onto the storage box. The contents will be my larger tetra's, my angels (last minute move for them cos they're easy to catch) the SAE's if I can catch them and curviceps. I have a 150 watt internal heater - this can go in the box too.

My question: How long do you all think I can safely keep my fish in this plastic storage box - with a filter and heater and lid?

Buck up, Little Camper. Just trying to lighten the mood, and remind you that it doesn't have to be done in one day.
I understand the stress you are under. I keep putting off moving my one 75 litre, due to the stress of catching and moving the fish.

I can drain and move the tank in an hour but it's catching the fish that's proving problematic. I know I could make it easier by ripping up all my plants and removing all the decor but I'm trying to avoid doing this when the tank is looking so healthy and I'm happy with the scape

Hmm, good question, an airstone wouldn't hurt.
My guess would be that they should be fine a couple or three days. When my main tank sprung a leak I had 2 Angels and 8 Corys each in 19 litre buckets for a day. No heater, no filter, just airstones, with no loss of life. Can't remember if I had the Bolivians at the time. I know the Otos came later.

my Dad keeps saying I should bring the 100 litre tank in from the shed but it's not cycled and the external filter won't fit it and so I don't see it as an option. If I did I'd bring it in and start moving fish this weekend.

I still have to move out of this room 1 victorian treadle sewing machine, one chest of drawers, 2 large book cases, 2 cd towers, a large tv unit, a coffee table, a large 2mt long rug, one small cupboard and a sofa. Then I've got to rip up the old carpet and clean the tiles underneath .... all this and a 4ft fish tank full of fish in a week ... and all on my own mostly too.

And on top of that my fibromyalgia and M.E has flared up (I'm stuck on the sofa unable to move today) ... yes I'm stressed and I'm worried I can't do it all in time

I would use the 100g tank.  Set it up somewhere quiet where it can be left to run for several weeks.  Move over the filter, even if it just hangs on the tank, and heater; add some bacterial supplement (Dr. Tim's One and Only if you can find it, or Tetra's SafeStart) and fill with water from the main tank as clean as possible (siphon out from near the top), add fresh as needed.  Move over the fish.  Toss in some floating plants.  Once the fish are moved, that's the end of fish issues which will leave you more relaxed to deal with the other concerns.

Byron.

I havn't got several weeks Byron ... I have 7 days.

My 100 litre tank is a Juwel Rekord 800 and due to the design of the lid there is no way I can hang my external filter on it ... not without straining the hinges and possibly breaking them. I also have nowhere quiet to put it. I live in a 1 bed flat. The living room needs to be empty for the 7th May. All the furniture from the living room will be either blocking my bedroom or my kitchen. There is no other space in this tiny flat.

My point was that once the fish are in the 100 litre tank, you can leave them alone for weeks, i.e., you won't have to worry about them again during the process.  I would not do this with fish in boxes/tubs.

If you have a dining area off the kitchen, this is a good spot for a temp tank; you can do without a table, it can be moved against a wall, folded, whatever works.

I havn't got a dining area off the kitchen. I have a small gally kitchen measuring 7ft x 4ft. My lounge is 12ft x 13ft. My bedroom is 12ft x 9ft and the bathroom is only big enough to turn around in ... you have to squeeze around the door to close it. The hall is 6ft at the widest point and 3ft at the narrowest..... I did say this flat is tiny

My apologies, Akasha.
I my intention was not to make light of your situation, just your comment.
As we say here in the South, Bless your heart. You do have a Herculean task with the furniture.

One question though, why are you having to rip out the old carpet?

I've lived in this flat for 13 years this year and when I moved in I was incredibly poor. My parents helped me out with a loan of some cash and that had to move me in to an unfurnished flat and decorate it too. It was horrendeously dirty, there were no carpets or curtains, no white goods, no cooker no nothing really. Just the four walls painted in very garish colours.
My Dad set about decorating as that's his trade (retired now though) and I set about getting the stuff I needed to furnish the place. All I could afford was basic carpets at the time so that was what I got with the plan to change them for better at a later date when I could afford it. I changed the bedroom carpet the year before last and now the living room carpet has worn so thin that I've had to buy a huge rug to cover up the main bit that is almost thread bare and poking through.

In January the old lady that lived in the flat below me passed away and the guy the housing have moved in is a noisy drunk that keeps me awake most nights. I went to the carpet store as the carpet needs changing anyway but I wanted to ask if there was anything they could fit to sound proof this place a little more. They showed me some special underlay that'll muffle some of his drunken noise and so in my desperation for some peace and quiet I booked them in there and then!!

If the underlay works then they are coming back to do my hall way and replace the underlay under the bedroom carpet!! One step at a time though!!

Ah, yes have to love the neighbors,(so you don't kill them).
But was wondering, in my time installing carpet, it was up to us to tear out and dispose of the old carpet. Are you doing it yourself as a money saver?
