Just gradually lessen the frequency of your testing and don't forget to settle into a routine of weekly gravel-clean-water-changes with a significant percent water change. Use monthly filter cleans as your starting point and perhaps adjust that frequency based on your feelings about how dirty the filter seemed. But remember that making the filter cleans less and less frequent will definately eventually result in debris begin dumped back into the tank, whereas keeping filter cleans monthly or more frequent would never hurt things and there are some reasons to feel it might be another helpful thing in being vigilant against algae (the theory being that excess mulm in the water spaces in a large filter can be a hiding place for small pockets of low levels of ammonia, which can trigger algae!)
