Hi all,

I have seen a lot of people who have replaced there filters with home made sumps they store under the tank, What is the advantages of this? Also would you put the heater in the sump to regulate the temperatures?

Thanks

Advantages - increases volume of water, allows you to put heaters & other equipment out of the main tank and out of sight. It can also provide a place to put a problem fish if you feel the need

As above. Tho I must admit that they don't seem very popular in the Planted tank / Aquascaping community. Not sure that I've ever seen one used in a planted tank. Maybe thats flow related. I would imagine that they don't generate as much flow as a external canister filter?

My tank is heavily planted but am planning on possibly removing the plants as i think this may be causing my issue's with green water (i am not adding extra CO2), I may just go back to silk plants then build a sump.

Check out the algae guide in my sign, there should be some advice on how to clear green water, I can't check from my phone...(

Tried everything stated in that link with no success unfortunately.
