Can I add a Gold Nugget pleco or two to a 100 gal. tank with an existing Clown pleco? Current bottom dwellers are a pair of kribensis 2 spotted synodontis should mature 6 inches and the Clown Pleco.

not sure about adding them with a clown pleco, I would assume as long as you have lots of hiding space and in a 100 gallon tank there is lots of space. I do know gold nuggets do not like other gold nuggets.

no, nuggets are solitary plecs, and very shy so another plec could easily stress him

also, is the clwon a true clown? i was told a sailfn was a clown once

Thanks Yes it is a true clown he is only about 3 inches long and I have had him for 6 years. Is there another Pleco that would be suitable? It seems like a big tank for one small Pleco

To be honest there is no real definitive answer, in theory yes you could probably keep a GN within a 100g tank with a clown. You could have a placid GN you could have a right nasty one, willing to try is the ultimate answer. If it works out then yes it could be ok obviously, if it doesn't you have to be aware that you may have to rehome one or move to another tank.

Simple answer is try and see if it works out, give them both plenty of places to hide and plenty of space to form there own territory just keep a vigil just incase.

Best bet would be completely revamp the tank so both start off on an even keel rather than the clown be automatically dominate of is current area.

clown plecs like other clowns. but, some plecs dont like adding more if theyre not grown up together.

I have a sailfin and a leopard, apparently these dont like company UNLESS raised together from a young age (which i am doing)

also, it works BETTER if they have enough space and their own territory, like their own cave, or bogwood :good:

at the end of the day, try it, watch carefully, if issues arise, be prepared to rehome one

I figured It would depend somewhat on the Individual plecos temperament. Thank you for the info I my re home the clown. My worry would be they would Wait to fight in the middle of the nightto fight (when they are active and I am not.)

tbh, when i had 2 that did fight, they had a good old go anytime

but like you say, that could be the individual plec.

it may be worth a go, try him with other plecs (ones that dont mind being in groups and are not shy) and just watch them. you will see a prob if there is going to be

but bear in mind, new plecos (no matter the breed) can be shy for a while :good:

Do you have a suggestions of a type of Pleco that is comfortable in groups? I had 2 Bristle Nosed Plecos in a 55 and they did fine but they turned out to be a pair and raised baby's so I figured that might have been why they got along.
