Nature soil is absolutely brilliant, its got my vote straight away, and i havnt even planted in it yet :) its granuals are so great, i moved the main stone a few times and they withstood anything i threw at them, i paid £49.99 for a 10l bag and i rekon i have used about 7-8 litres. The substrate is about 1.5" at the front sloping to 4" at the rear of the tank.

So, what do you rekon?
I wish i could plant now, but really want to be there for the first month of set-up so i can do w/c etc. and check everything is ok, and i cant to that due to a 2 week holiday, leaving next friday. The tetratec ex600 is running in my rekord 60, so a few days after i come back that will be 6 weeks matured and ready to use.

The planned stocking at the moment is just shrimp, mainly cherrys and i have already a couple of tigers, and then i will just see how it goes and which fish will suit the tank.

Anyone got any tips on removing 2 month old dried on green spot algae from the tank glass?

Thanks for looking
Adam

boraras brigittae, b. merah, b. uropthalmoides. You could have a shoal about about 15 urophthalmoides one the tank settles. That would make the tank look ginormous. The merah and brigittae are a little bigger and brighter.

Though I will say, a school of about 12 dwarf corydoras would look pretty sweet too.

At least the above is what I'd consider puttting in if it were me.

The tank is going to look sweet. :good: I'm watching this one.

wow adam...youve gone the full works this time ;) im looking forward to seeing this develop!

ahh, young truck! long time no see, hows it going?
yeah, ive decided to try and do this one properly, only thing thats letting me down is my camera, not the best tbh
thanks

that would be sweet, to make it look huge :) although i have to say no to the corys, i have never been a fan tbh, cant see the attraction, and been as tho im having a full carpet of plants its not really that good if they dig or anything

thanks for the nice comments guys!!!!

i may have some ember tetras as long as the ph lowers with the co2 injection, as my tapwater is ph 7.8 :( ember tetras only grow to 2cm!!! crazy!
gotta get some shrimp first thats my main priority once the tank is planted, keep that algae down :)

haha :D

looks nice mate :good: these kind of scape just look so sharp and crisp if you get me

Eh. While lovely, the embers are a hyphessobrycon species of tetra, which means while they are small, they are rather bulky. Like a serpae or a black phantom is bulky and aesthetically speaking if you are trying to create the illusion of size, a bulky fish is not your best bet. Don't get me wrong, they are great and they rocked when I had them in my 20g and made it look freaking huge. Until they started getting sucked up by the filter and I had to give the rest away. I don't think you'd get the same accomplishment in an 8g. That being said, I did put dwarf platies in my 8g. Not what I wanted, but mother wanted color.

I understand about corys, just don't dive into the corydora forum with that comment. I personally find them charming, but how one finds an idiot charming. They are very stupid fish. I keep several species.

Still think your best bet is with the microrasboras, but it's up to you. Just please, your moderator begs you, for her happiness, don't slap an ugly big fish in there. I look at these gorgeous 5-8g nanos all the time, planted beautifully, algae free, and then I see 3 fat old tetras in them, not even in a proper school. Ruins the look IMO and wastes the planted effort. At least my platies were very small, and had like 10 of them and they were bright fish in a Dutch scape, so it worked. Even the embers would look far better than three fat penguin tetras. You could at least have 10-12 individual and have a decent school. Sorry for the rant, but poor fish choice can really ruin an otherwise lovely scape, and yours has so much potential.

lol, same with my mother, all she wants is colourful fish!
thanks for help on fish, im not going to slap an ugly big fish in there, im going to plant it and see what suits

if this was my tank...which it isnt...so my advice is impartial...i would be having a small school of pygmy corydoras say 6 and then a shoal of 8-16 microrasbora erythromicron...im using the scientific name because some species in this genus are often confused with each other

i say yes to the microrasbora, but corys arnt really my thing, shrimp is the main priority once the tank is set up, im getting 20 baby cherries from a bloke on ukaps. that should be plenty, and then when they start breeding, just feed them to my other fish in seperate tank

thanks guys
