"endor" Llj's 36G Low-Light

lljdma! Your tank is FABULOUS! I am all about the low-tech, low maintenance tanks. I am so encouraged to see your successes.

Tay

Thank you very much. Time for an update.

I should consider renaming this tank the "Degoba system". It kind of reminds me of Yoda's planet from Star Wars. Very swampy.

Not much has changed except the growth is more dense. The tank handled the long stretch between waterchanges very well, though I think I'll settle at around once a month for waterchanges. The crypts were more vigorous when I only waited a month. I am extremely surprised that the Fissidens and the Susswassertag are growing extremely well. The fissidens is almost doing better in this tank than it did in my 8g. Some pictures for you.

I guess this qualifies as a "Jungle Scape." I'll be leaving for Italy on Wednesday. I'm not worried about this tank, however. The fish just need to be fed once every 3 days and TPN+ should be dosed when the fish are fed. That is handled by a family member easy enough. Maybe a top-off, but I don't think so.

Yep, a very nice jungle scape! Shouldn't be a problem to leave for Italy a few weeks! Have fun and don't have too much capucchino and wine...

Oh yeah, this tank was designed to be low-maintenance. I don't anticipate a problem. Family just has to feed the fish (which I already measured out their food) and dose some TPN+ when they feed the fish.

i can't wait to get to the minimal water changes. Looking good llj, what is the plant in pic 4 at the front?

I don't know about Degobah. It reminds me of Endor. The scene where Wicket the Ewok and Princess Leah meet each other on a grassy fallen log :)

Looks Good Llj. I especially like 'cheeky' midwater anubias and the Espei ;)

I like Endor better. :good: Degobah is a bit messy, isn't it. They are not espei, though, just regular harlequin rasboras. The other rasbora is R. gracilis.

I just did a waterchange today. The tank wasn't too bad after my time away, just some dead spot BGA infront of the glass at the substrate because I wasn't there to shift the sand, and a little hair algae at the top of the wood. Water level was quite low and I had to do a top-off right when I got back on the 26th. With my opera gala this past weekend, I couldn't do a proper waterchange until today. Another added bonus to going away. Fish were fed so infrequently, that I have very few snails in the tank now. :good:

Will perhaps post pictures tonight or probably this weekend. Not like the tank has changed much. Looks the same as the last update, just a little more growth is all. This is good, that means I can focus my attention on that empty 8g that's been sitting there. :shifty:

what type of root tabs do you use? My swords are looking a little ratty(break from tank) but i have started EI and co2 again
i would like to put root tabs under them

Haven't used root tabs in over a year. I just dose about 10ml of TPN+ when I feed the fish.

Have let this tank go since June. I have different plans for this 36g, so I didn't mind so much. Have some BGA in the sand bed, but I know why that is and it will be fixed, or not. I don't really care.

Interesting to see what happens when you just stop waterchanges (did some top offs) and dosing. Crypts don't like it, at least in my tank. Did some melting. Aponogetons loved it. I have dozens of little plantlets that have germinated from seed pods. Pelia has thrived, and anubias are algae free. Anubias are also growing under extremely low-light conditions...

Here's why...

Mossball1.JPG

Now that is one giant ball of weeping moss. Started with a little leftover sprig from my 8g when I dismantled it in March and now it's turned into that...

Mossball2.JPG

Needless to say, now you know where I'll be getting my moss for my 8g moss wall. Shades everything in its path. Very impressive ball of moss.

The possible plan is to move the plants and stock that are left to my 20g and empty out the 36g.

Hi all,

Endor's had a great run, and I learned a lot but I need to downsize the hobby (sister's getting married, and I may have to move) and Endor would have been difficult to transport full. Moved a lot of the plants to the ADA scape...

Will be submitting Endor in its prime for the ASW competition. Have some lovely photos of this tank which you can see in this thread.

Endor's Last Hurrah

Some of Endor's inhabitants, including livestock, will find a home here...

Refugee's from Endor - my ADA Tank

Thanks :)
