Ive had 6 harlequin rasbora in my tank for awhile now and decided today to get some more. Went in the shop and ordered 18 (thought build it up over time) the salesperson couldn't be botherd to count them and just thrown loads into the bag. but it looked like a good amount in the bag (thought ideal got a couple extra)
Payed the £22, £18 for the rasboras (undercharged) and £4 on a ruby shark.

Got home done all the floating bag stuff etc, started to release slowly while counting.
Kinda went like this....1 5 8 9 10 12 14 15 18 22 23 26 29 32 37 40, ended up with 40 for £18 lol

So now I have 46 rasboras and it looks awesome.
Hopefully my filter will handle the sudden bioload.

Anyone else had this sort of thing happen? I also picked up 6 ghost shrimp 2 days ago for £1

wow, you were given more than double.  what is the capacity of the tank.

Great deal, but what size are they roughly excluding tail fin, what are the dimensions of your tank and what is already in it?

Keep a daily eye out on ammonia/nitrite, I'm expecting you to have a serious toxin spike and need plenty of regular big water changes for the coming weeks.

My original 6 are 1.5'' and the new ones id say roughly 1'' long.

Tank is 375litre with a fx5 full of bio media. 5ft by 20" x 20"
Other fish are
8 torpedo barb 3" long
1 smiling acara, 1 kribensis
1 8.5'' sailfin plec
5 kuhli loaches
1 small ruby shark

Can I get the address of this shop?

I wish shops over the pond here would "count" this way.

Filter should be just fine, perhaps a slight bump?

Hopefully I don't have any serious spikes and lose my stock lol.

Im not sure If it was because I bought a lot at once, they are quite hard to count and I don't think the shops would want to give you less than what you wanted. Maybe you should buy a lot at once you may end up with a couple extra then.
Good thing is my tank use to look empty, now its quite hectic.

A lot of it will come down to how much of a real bioload increase these 40 new fish are, compared to the bioload your FX5's (and elsewhere in your tank) bacteria colonies are used to.

If you don't already have a lot of water rippling for your Redline Torpedo Barbs (which I don't agree with being in a tank of true tropical fish, because they are temperate and should have an average temp of 20C over the course of a year to prevent shortened lifespans), now would be a good time to do so, because a growing bacterial colony needs more oxygen and they will get what they need way ahead of the fish.

what pet store was that!?! I love those rasboras. they were my first fish and I still have 2 of them(about a year old and i used to have 3 my little bro murdered one.) I am getting some more in the next couple days. they started to get nippy with my guppies
