A Warm Hello From A Newbie To Tropicals

Nah not sad, just a good sense of humour.

And Fingers sounds lovely, looking forward to some photo's when he comes home.

Thanks for the update :D

so how long until you think the tank will be ready?

You need a good sense of humor in this world, don't you?! Glad you don't think I'm too much of a nut.

I don't think the tank will be ready for perhaps another couple of weeks to be sure, the lfs are aware and don't normally keep fish that long, but at least I know he'll be well looked after there, they're a good bunch. I told them his name is Fingers and they laughed at me, (not with me I noted  ), and one of them said they'll try to have him well trained during the time they have him!

I had a rescape in the tank the other day, God its so stressful, I forgot all about rescaping until then. Still not finished yet and bought a new plant today that I need to place correctly, and am trying to source some redmoor wood, but I have plenty of time before Fingers comes home!

A sense of humour is definately needed. And don't worry, i'm a nutter too.

I think fingers is a great name, don't know why they'd laugh at it.

You find rescaping stressful?? I love rescaping..

 Yup, I do find rescaping stressful...... Starts off relaxing, then I think I've messed it up and it was better before I started mucking around with it....... Thankfully, this time, it does look better! Its easier with this tank than my previous marine one though, and I want to have it looking right for Fingers, don't want to stress him out by moving stuff around whilst he's in there, its only a little 35l.

(They weren't laughing at the name, they were laughing at me, in good humour though, they remember me and what I used to be like!).

Glad you're a nutter too, nice to know we're not alone

yeah rescaping in such a small tank must be quite difficult.

I like the space of having my 100 litre tank, I can stand back and decide where something needs to be.

(wish it was more like a 200-300 litre tank though)

Is he going to have any little tank mates in his 35l??

And good to know you can have a laugh with the staff there. There's a couple of those at my local store.

And of course we're not alone, they're listening *points up*.... joke.

Yup, you move one piece and its all gone "the proverbial" up

I was thinking of having a few neon tetras in there? Not sure to be honest, want something that won't stress him or be stressed!

(I am now looking up - where are they? Or, do you mean the mods? )

Haha, I means aliens, but mods would have worked just as well :D

Well my neons get along well with my fighter, but theres never any guarantees. I suppose it's worth a try, Though i think i'd put the neons in first, feed em up for a couple days, then put fingers in, so you don't have hungry neons.

(neon tetra's are related to pihrana, so you gotta keep em well fed haha)

Chuckling away here now, sorry mods

Well, from what I read, its all a risky business.....Not sure what I'll do now to be honest, don't want any injuries or deaths on my hands

I read somewhere that some of the small rasbora may be ok?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

i see your considering Neons as tank mates. Please be warned that they are quite delicate to newly filtered tanks and ideally should not be added to a tank until it has been up and running for 6+ months. There are tonnes of other fish that would look great, but i woundn't recommend getting Neon's to start with

Oh there you go, we've been told haha.

I'm afraid I know nothing about raspora's though, so i can't help you there.

Thanks Timmy_Bee,

thats neons out for now then anyway, killing fish is not my game!

(Yup, thats us told Rusty!).

Methinks I'll stick with Fingers for now until a fail safe plan comes up :good:

(I'll research a little more into Cherry Shrimp? Someone may well come along and say no, but would rather someone said no now!).

Any other suggestions?

Hmm.. well, it depends what kind of fish you're after. Otocinclus catfish don't do much, but are very cute, extremely peaceful, and funny when they have a little spaz-attack moment.

Just checked their pics out Rusty; they look lovely  What do they do when they have a spaz attack? Sounds hilarious!

Now, will Fingers leave them alone? Are they bottom dwellers? Off to do some more research on them

They're usually bottom dwellers, but you'll quite often find them sunbathing on leaves, or suctioning themselves to the glass higher up.

And when they spaz-out, they swim around at rediculously high speeds, with no real aim or direction before stumbling across something to eat, where they suddenly stop entirely and settle to munching within seconds.

And we keep them with out fighter, and they leave eachother well alone. The fighter has taken interest in them, and scooted a couple out of his favourite cave, but not once has he had a go at them, never been violent in the slightest. So fingers should be the same.
