A *positive* fish thing at Wal-Mart?

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed that the 2 Petco stores in my area have been carrying (significantly) less bettas than before. They are still in little "pee" cups... but it seems that they now maintain them better because of the lower volume.

I used to rearrange their betta display to move the back row fish to the front because they were being neglected by the staff. Looks like I don't have to do that anymore.

Well I've just been to the local pet at home (equivalent of petmart), went along being very dubious with all the bad press they get and was really surprised the tanks are immaculate, all the fish were in tanks over 30 gal and were defiantely not over stocked (apart from maybe the goldfish tank which was about 100gal). Not dead/diseased fish to be seen. Did hang around long enough to here some of the advice ppl in there were given, wouldn't say it was totally accurate but still better than I was expecting.

Yay!!!  More big cups for more Bettas!!!  (Hmmm...sounds like I'm talking about bras or bra sizes  )
   I almost choked on my frosted flakes when I read that

and that DOES defeat the purpose if they have such a little amount of water at your walmart  ...some people  tsk tsk tsk

I noticed the females all had little cups here too -_- ,well if THAT'S not sexist

They had sooo many pretty bettas today, a blue one with yellow fins, very unique ...a few yellows,a white one that had calico blue and lilac spots BUT I resisted 8) ,I didn't get one :X (I still want that blue & yellow one though.....maybe he'll be there tomorrow :shifty: )
Buy the Blue and yellow one! You know you want to. YOu would think Striker is pretty interesting looking. THe whole front half of his body is orange (except the top of his head) and the rest of him is blue. :D

I do that tooooo!!

Sometimes the fish you find in the back row are horrid  , one time in good ole Wally world I was doing that,I got to the very back row and  2 dead bettas in one cup, then another cup with two badly decomposed bettas, and another and another...I had the manager standing there with me...a very young woman who was at the moment stating she had a betta in a vase once but she never fed him and eventually he gave up ( :grr: ) and also blaming kids for putting the bettas together like that. I found about 6 cups with double dead bettas until I came to the last cup...the water was so cloudy and all I could see was the dead betta floating on top and then these little eyes appeared out of the murk...there was a survivor  , I turned to the manager and said "I'll take him, dump out the dead one & clean this guy up for me" She sneered and "   " and refused to touch him but another employee stepped up and said they'd do it for her :grr: :grr:
That was about 6 months ago and he still flares at me everytime I walk in the room,he's the only betta who flares at ME,but it's ok

That sounds way out of control.

I am sad to say I bought my first aquarium stuff at Walfart, but I will not shop there anymore, even for groceries. Crap like that, added to aggressive shoppers who will run you over, death of local businesses, illegal workers, etc......

Well, you get the picture. Not even a pack of gum from there. I am sure they are quaking in their boots....

Some manager! What would have happened if there wasn't another employee there to do it? -_- Would she have left it there like that? Refused to sell it?

How disgusting!!! I hope you reported her to the store manager or someone above him. :S

lol,no kidding

But honestly...I'd of made her search the store until she found someone to do it,or I'd of done it myself  ,and there's no way I'd of left without him,he was MINE the second I saw those little hopeful/helpless eyes

I'm ashamed to say that I didn't report them -_- , I should have, but I didn't, had it have gotten any uglier than it was I probably would of, but everybody was very apologetic about the whole situation (I told them not to tell ME they're sorry, they should apologize to the fish  )
