Well, after loosing my first ever female Betta yesterday I'm still very upset..
I went to go feed my other baby, Amber, who I created a thread about earlier today. She wasn't in the tank.
I started freaking out. She was in the tank only an hour ago when I checked her..
The tank she is in has a lid, surely she couldn't have gotten out - but she did; somehow.
I decided to look on the floor around my tank, and I found her - dead. :-(
I was crying, and still trying to figure out how she could have escaped. I started inspecting every part of the tank, then I came across the hole at the back of the lid where the the airline tubing, heater, filter cables come out. The gap is less than 1cm big - just enough for my baby to jump through.
This hole is so small, it never occurred to me that any of the fish could jump out through it.. but it is the only possible way.
She will be buried next to her 'big sister' Sapphire, where she can rest in peace :-(

RIP Amber and Sapphire, I will never forget you :byebye: :rip:

Sooo sorry to hear! I've only had one betta jump out and that is my boy patriot, I found him crusted to the floor, so just as I was about to decide what to do with him he moved, I plopped him in a cup of water and he came back to life slowly, I've come to the conclusion that he jumped out where the filter came into the tank...smallest hole ever but he did it somehow. I'm sooo sorry about your loss.

Aw,- so sorry to hear this  It never gets any easier as they touch our hearts so. I always keep my water levels a few inches from the top of the tank and touch wood so far haven't had any bettas jump out. Just the odd apple snail or so every now and then. It's amazing just how small a gap they can jump out of though. As hard as this is for you now, at least you know what happened and can take steps to avoid it happening again.

Sorry to hear, When i was a kid, my parents bought me a betta, i decided to put it in our 10 galloon downstairs, and so one day, when we went out to like shop, i came home and the betta fish was on the floor, it some how managed to jump out, we found we left the little visor open, but i did not find out how the betta jumped out, i was little so i started crying, so my parents got me anotehr one, but i will never forget that betta, it was really pretty :(

Sorry for your loss, she was a beautiful fish...

When it comes to bettas, I think we all experience some really horrible deaths, they are almost too adventurous or curious...

RIP Amber

I hate loosing fish - i have lost 5 so far and have been devastated by all of them - all are buried under my Acer out the back.
