Ok......so a story for you all. I bought this fish from my lfs, it was in the same tank as the agazzi dwarfs and the fish shop owner told me what it was but i have since forgot. Now i have had it a month and for a while i didnt care that i didnt know what it was, my wife so kindly named it "emo-fish" (cos it looks like its wearing eyeliner and is moody) Well anyway it has quickly become my favourite fish so now i want to know what it is. Its about an inch or so long, has a red outline on fins (cant really see this in the photo) and i have scoured the internet for an I.D. but so far have not figured it out. So the question is........do you know?

please tell me you know.

Stumped. My only guess would be this fish: http://fishbase.dk/images/Apistogramma%20gephyra-web.png Apistogramma gephyra. I doubt that's the fish though, because your fish is much broader with no line down the middle.

I believe it would be an Apisto sp. ??

Nope its not that. but thanks for trying. I was thinking that it could be a young fish that may not be a dwarf. cos i have checked every dwarf on every website i can find and there is nothing. Its a shame cos the thing is awesome and i would recommend it.

Still looking very much like a colour morph of Apistogramma nijsseni to me...

He is dieing it seems. I think he was a little overly aggressive/shy (if that makes sense......didnt like visitors in his cocanut) well anyway since i put a few bigger fellas in the tank he seems to want to sit in the top corner by himself gasping for air. (all parameters are fine, although i probably should do a change tonight). its a shame cos as mean as it sounds all my other apistos are much uglier and not nearly as amiable, anyway i have moved emofish (his/her adopted name) into the breeder with the cocanut, hopefully the stress is reversible.

Sorry to hear that...

Is he still eating?

Sitting at the top of the tank is his failed attempt at giving up, but soon he will win his own game.

You have to re home him if you want him to survive!

will leaving him in the breeder just make it worse. i have another tank i would have to fill, i run two filters in my current tank, i could just move that into the new one and hope that it will non cause both my tanks to cycle. its so frustrating that the fish with the most personality in my tank is the one that is stressed. all the other apistos are absolutely fine. its almost like he knew he was my favourite.

oh and to answer the question.........he stopped eating. like 3 days ago.

I'm afraid at this point there really is no solution then.

Once they stop eating it is just a matter of time.

My Cichlid did the same thing a couple days ago, he went for 5 days without eating, and on the fifth day he died.

Me and wilder (another member on here), had long discussion about this.

The reason is stress.

Sorry to here about it, and bless him.

If there is any chance of survival, you MUST get him out of that tank asap!

If its not too far gone move to another tank, with the same tank water, and try to feed by offering some live food (small amount)
Plenty of aeration (surface movement)
