I have come across something fishy
there are some fish being sold as harliquin
rasboras that are not "true" harliquins

3rasbora.jpg

the first is a harliquin Trigonostigma heteromorpha
the second is a glowlight rasbora Trigonostigma hengeli
and the last is a siamese dwarf rasbora Trigonostigma somphongsi
(the common name is loosly translated from the Danish Siamesisk dværgrasbora)

so the question goes out to all those that keep harliquins...
are you sure you really have harliquins and not another fish in harliquins clothing?

Heh.
There's a lot of this that goes on.
I recently discovered that my rummy-nose tetras are actually fire-heads.

And there's all sorts of confusion over cory species, not to mention all the misleading stuff about temminickii bristlenoses.

I'm off to find more of these imposters
watch this space ;)

The dodgy LFS near here sells fish called "harlequin tetras" that look identical to the real harlequin rasbora....I asked once and they said "no, they are definitely tetras, you can tell by the shpe of their mouth" then went off to catch some ridicuously large fish for some kids ridiculously small tank

Im prety sure ive got the real thing. When your harliquins ar5e in top shape you should get BRIGHT colours, but these "wolves in sheeps clothing" dont display colour anywhere near what the true harli's do. :)

Nice find though Wolf, and ill deffinately watch this space.

That first pic of the three looks very close ifnot is a harliquin. How certain are u that it isnt?

the fist is a harliquin

there is also the Espei Rasbora, which looks like a harliquin and a glow light harliquin mixed together :)

I'm happy to say all 4 of mine are the real harlequins and doing very well too. The most distinctive difference is the amount of black from the midpoint on. I do wonder if one is a cross breed tho as it is more the colouring of the third but has the full black belly as the real harlequins. Hmmmmmmm. :S
Hugs,
P.

I've got some Copper Rasboras which look like the third picture but with a bigger black triangle. They are listed as Harlequins in my LFS and strangely the true Harlequins are listed as Gold Harlequins in the LFS. Tis all very bizarre.
