Matsubas ? is that the big chaps ,wouldnt mind a few more details ie type ,i thought kin matsuba myself ,i origonaly thought ghost koi by his discription but never mind

Yep they are Kin Matsuba, sorry I should have said that as there are also Gin Matsuba, Aka Matsuba, Ki matsuba and Shiro Matsuba. Me and paul v biker both have Kin Matsubas so welcome to the club! Most of the Matsubs especailly Kin Matsuba and Shiro Matsuba are now labelled as Ghost Koi. I wouldn't be suprised if your fish are from Israel originally? There seems to be alot of Matsubas coming over from there.

grrrrrrr no one said these chaps like to jump,big one jumped clean out the pond,was touch and go for a while i think another half hour i woulda lost it ,few scales missing but seems none the worse stupid fish

I have had ones jump it generally means they are unhappy with something so they try to get out of the water if it is to small or the parameters are bad?

did all the tests today waters fine ,can only asume it jumped at something and missed,i thought a cat at first but the fish would have been worse off,the chap i got them off had a piddley little thing (pond) with a tiny filter/pump his water was like pea soup approx 250gallon,ive doubled the size of the pond for them,as soon as i build the bigger one in they go,i watched them for a while today they do seem to be having a go at the flys a lot ,netted the pond just to be safe

Sorry Paul I must have given you the worng ID? An Aka Matsuba is a red fish like this one;

With the black inside to the scales, yours is a Kin Matsuba, yellow with the black inside to the scales.

ok heres plan B a single course brickwork ,lined or renderd havent decided yet with a housing for the filters feeding the big pond which in turn will flow into the smaller pond to be pumped back up,i decided brick is gonna be cheaper than timber wadda ya think ? forget plan B see plan C further down

Looks good, but unless you have 3ft tall filters the water will have to go against gravity which can make an effect on the pump in the long run, the outflow will also be quite weak causing little airation. But otherwise it is great.

filters will be placed at pond hieght on shelving, i did think about a bottom inlet and force the water up through layers of medium
