A Few Of My Tanks.

There is one bag in my 180 and one bag in my malawi tank. Obviously it is deeper in the 180 so yeah, 25kg would be ideal as a planted tank.

On the other hand, if you're still going with the JBL stuff then one bag should be adequate. ;)

The trouble is I can never make my mind up lol

Gravel is to big
Argos play sand is getting on my tits
Once I've spent 30/50 on plants I want them to live
That's why I thought about the jbl stuff

Think I just need help, with the plants as well lol...

Maybe we were seperated at birth? lol. You sound very much like me!

I always got by with dosing ferts and picking mostly the right plants. I usually take a few attempts to get it right (as people will tell you on here) but eventually i do get it looking something like with a bit (alot) of help from people on here and via email etc. Never had a planted substrate as they're pretty expensive imo, but no doubt that they're worth it. Maybe you could consider the cat litter trick? 10kg and 12.5kg of sand would be plenty. :D

I think I look to hard and mess, then I go back to how I first had it lol

25kg of jbl sub is about £32 in maidenhead same as 2 bags of unipac as they don't have the 25kg bags in,

With out hijacking your thread I was told today my bba on my plants was also to do with all my plants are slow growing and I needed some fast growing plants to feed on what's in the water, I get more confused the more I read and look

Lol cheers

Yeah my thread was going well... lol. ;)

BBA is a PITA!!!! Low co2, fluctuating co2, slow growing plants, low nutrients, too much light blah blah blah, i never know what it is that causes it. My tanks never used to suffer with it, but then all of a sudden i would have an out break of it. I just cut the affected leaves off, did a nice big water change and dose more ferts and it worked. I normally knock the lights off a bit earlier too after an out break. Plants have kind of taken a back seat for now for me, i still have them as you will see when the Puffer tank pics get uploaded (well, actually taken!!) but they're just basic bog standard things now rather than anything ellaborate. I am a very big fan of crypts as alot of people will know, so they play a big part of the foreground for me.

The sand i have in my Malawi and Apisto tanks is Unipac Limpopo. I want to use Senegal in one of them soon though.

£20 for 25kg at my LFS.

thats what i need to get then, my firemouths look faded and owuld look lovely with darker substrate I shall do a search for some now :good:

ok lol, My rio's scape as it is now i found so hard to plant i wanted at first minimal plants as ive always found it hard to keep them but IMO the low scape i have is not working for me
and i seem to be heading for fish that like a lot of plants to hide in (so it said on the label at maidenhead) PMSL i like there right, thats why i like your malawi tank its a pile of rocks and this is a complement but you have placed them just righ and it has massive wow factor...

I can see what i want in my head but can not seem to get it to go in the water lol, before i joined here i was hoping for no plants like This but as i said all the label on the fish i like said heavy planted tanks, i always found plants dirty and hard to keep clean not to mention keeping them alive...

They all look great mate!

Im a fan of that malawi setup too, like the darkness with the grey rock and obviously colourful fish, i like that holding tank too, how big is it, got a feeling its smaller than it looks

How many tanks you got on the go then?

You last two tanks are stunning, minnnt. (not saying your shrimp and holding tank arent pretty). Can you come hardscape for me?

Thanks simon. Mattlee has the limpopo in his tank so that would be better for you to guage it on a bigger scale which would be more appropriate for your situation.

Spurry, lmao@the label. will pm you and try and help with plants etc.

Kane, cheers mate, means alot. The holding tank is 70 litres. 2ft x 1ft. I found it on the rubbish tip at work so its a great little tank. As for the malawi tank, the rocks were free so it was a no brainer really. My original plan was to have black cobbles from b&q, but at £15 a bag I soon changed my mind. Lol. The background needs removing and painting with black emulsion, but that's an on going thing. ;) down to 5 tanks now atm.

Jourdan, thanks alot. They're coming along nicely now. Can hopefully sit back and start to enjoy them a little more now after a few hectic weeks swapping and changing.

Was considering adding a trio of yellow honey gourami's to the 180, what do you reckon?

<3 that Cichlid tank, it's easy the best i have seen. The rock placement is very natural, a very hard thing to do in these tanks and it's where a lot of Malawei keepers fall down. Winner!

as for the Gouramis, i have had them a few times and they are very boring fish. Get some Chocs from MA in notts. :good: They are now keeping tap water bread Chocs!

Bread Chocs? ;)

That is actually a very good idea... I may pay them a visit. But it is something yellow that i was looking for.

oops, its cos its sooo early! lol

there are some nice Kili's in there at the moment too.
