I had a dream last night ... A nightmare really. I kept discovering Bettas in tiny little bowls all over my house, all sick and neglected. I realized that I'd bought them and then forgotten about them! I was rushing around trying to each of them into a bigger cleaner bowl/tank/Tupperware but I would just discover more sick bettas :(

As a dream, it sucked ... But I kept thinking about one of the Bettas I found - in the dream I remember thinking wow! And, I hope the black isn't fin rot!

This morning, I borrowed my children's crayons and tried to draw him.... Is this color combination possible? And what tail type is this?

That does look similar to my Vesuvius :)

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to have a coloration like that.

Killing time trying to find bettas for sale that fit that picture

Here's one I've found so far.
I imagine it's not quite the same shade but it's the closest I've found so far.

And another male, not as close as the first one but still..sort of?

I was just going to say it looked like a mustard gas

OMG! That first link is so alike!!!! I wonder if I can convince my hubby to get him ... And figure out what to do with him while my tank finishes cycling

I bought the first one from ebay. I received him today - DOA

I'm not sure I'll try online fish shopping again.

Oh gosh. Sorry to hear

Sadly, DOAs do happen. Did you contact the seller? Many of them require photos of the DOA within a few hours of receiving it. They usually will send a replacement or refund.

Edited: Looks like the seller did have a DOA policy.

"Live Arrival guarantee!

In a very rare case of DOA (dead on arrival), please send me a picture of the dead fish without opening the bag with in 30 minute of receiving the package! I will replace the fish with equal or greater value fish but the buyer has to pay 15$ for shipping and handling charges!"

Make sure to contact them! :)

I did contact the seller (voucherking2010) immediatley and sent pictures. He was very quick to respond and offer a similar fish. Quite honestly, I am wary of getting another fish by mail so I requested a refund instead. He was very responsive and nice throughout our message exchanges. Although my poor fish was DOA, I would recommend working with this seller. [and I'd put this as review for him on ebay, but I can't seem to figure out how to rate a seller other than rating the transaction which has a small text limit].

I was home when the fish was delivered and he seemed well packed, plus his heat pad was still quite warm. I have no idea why he died :(

I'm so sorry to hear! :-(

Sorry to hear that :rip:

Don't let it put you off buying online, I'm sure it is rare for a DOA!

Thanks for the sympathy. Even dead he was a gorgeous betta.

I've seen lots of people on this forum get fish online successfully - though I've also heard of other DOAs. When my husband and I were discussing what do to next, our 5 yr old burst into tears and begged us not to make another living thing go through the mail. My daughter can be quite dramatic, but I'm not going to risk another DOA ... The pet store has some nice bettas and once the tank is cycled, I'll let my daughter pick the betta she wants as the betta we already have is her brother's pick.

DOAs do happen, and it is a risk. I've gotten all of my current new bettas (10 girls and one male) from a breeder a few states away with no DOAs. Also got my red honey gouramis from a few states away (ordered off of ebay) and had no problems with them either.  I try to stay within a few states distance when I do order live things though, to hopefully minimize the distance they have to go. (Glad to hear the seller was really willing to work with you though!)
Good luck in whatever betta you decide to get though!

Again, so sorry to hear about your DOA. He was a gorgeous boy!

edited to add: FYI: Sometimes the heating pads can make them too hot. There's always a risk using those too.

That's what my husband thinks happened.
