I just have two quick questions

1. How long does Bio Spira take to work? I added it in last Saturday, and I want to know if my tank will be ready for new fish by the end of this week.

2. If I have 4 red eye tetras, 2 corys, and 3 platies, is that going to be overstocking?

Thanks in advance. :)

dont have a clue about the bio spira but about the over stocking i think that would be fine going roughly on the inch per gal rule but i would try to have 3 corys just to make them a bit more happier,i think thats fine tho.

BioSpira works IMMEDIATELY. If you do not feed the biospira bacteria, by either adding fish or ammonia they will die off. You may be too late.

Sorry. :(

My ammonia was pretty high (like 3 or maybe over) when I added the bio spira. Then I checked it like 2 hours later, still 3. Then I read the pack and it said it works overnight. So I waited, tested again tomorrow still high at like 3. Tested it again today, still high at 3. So I'm wondering if it takes like 5 days or so. Anyone have a clue?

Fish and bio-spira must be added at the same time. Otherwise the bio-spira will die off in a few hours and be useless.

Ok, so at least there was ammonia in there. Cool. Didn't catch that.

My guess is either:
The BioSpira will take a few days to establish itself and then the ammonia and nitrites will drop pretty quickly.
or
You got a dead batch.

Was it refridgerated in the store when you bought it?

Yea, it was in a little refigerator. I took it home, shook it up a lot and pured it in. The packet treated 30 gallons, and I put half of that in. So I'll give it a couple more days before i go and b*tch to the store.

Oh, and there are fish in there already to clear that up (check my sig). I know they're not great waste producers, but they got the ammonia up.

Eh, please don't do that.
If you did get a dead batch, its the manifatuers fault, not the stores.
I know if I was the manager or the employee that you yelled at, i would be very annoyed, not old at the manifactuer, but at you.
Its not their fault they had to sell a dead batch,
They can't test it all.

lol, I was only joking, I wouldn't do that.

I think I'm just going to wait a few more days to let the bacteria that I did put in there colognize and multiply. I don't think it's an instant cycle thing. It will take a little time to multiply. Does that sound right to you guys?

Oh, and can someone tell me if what I said in my first post is overstocking. I know somone already answered, I just want a little more closure. Thanks.

Good, i couldn't tell if you were or not.
Its pretty embaressing for the person dealing out the crap, and the person who the crap is being given to.
I hate seeing people blow up at employees who are just doing their Job.
It makes me want to go and start a yellin'!
Except, I don't mind if you knock WalMart employees around alittle bit :shifty:
lol

Anyways, no, I dont think your tank is over stocked.

I've cycled 6 tanks (3g - 20g) using Bio-Spira. The last 4 set-ups I cloned using established filter media, but I added a half-dose of Bio-Spira as well, just to be on the safe side. The complete cycles took between 8 and 14 days... *but* ammonia/nitrite spikes were *very* small (<.5 for amm, <1.00 for nitrites). For the last 4 set-ups (2g - 29g) I never had any ammonia or nitrite readings, thanks to the filter media/Bio-Spira combo. I have a (fairly) brief summary of my first 6 "Bio-Spira" tanks, which I can post if you are interested...

I keep it on hand now in case I have to set up a hospital or quarantine tank quickly. Definitely worth the money - I doubt that I would enjoy the hobby as much as I do if I had to deal with fish dying from the cycling process or daily water changes for the first month! Plus there's something to be said for instant gratification - it's nice to have a tank full of the fish you want from the beginning

Ethos, surely there is nothing wrong with POLITELY explaining of there was something wrong with the product and asking for your money back? Otherwise, how are they going to know there is a problem and be able to get it sorted? Part of the job of any shop employee is to deal with unsatisfied customers. (And part of the customer's job is to show their dissatisfaction in a civilised manner).
I don't expect my COOP to taste my milk for me, but if it is off I still want my money back, that is part of my rights as a customer. And I know they prefer to be told there is a problem rather than my just taking my custom elsewhere and them maybe losing more customers, because nobody gave them a chance to rectify the problem.
If Biospira does not work, the problem is likely to lie with the delivery system; if its' been left sitting around on a warm lorry, for instance.

No, I saw thme take it right out of the refrigerator. They never leave it sitting around.
The bio spria has been in for only 3 days by the end of today, so maybe it just needed some time, and maybe I'll see results tomorrow hopefully.

well if ammonia didn't go up and you've got fish in there, it might be working.... slowly but surely.

it should work overnight though as people here that have succesfully used said it worked overnight

you should maybe bring it back and let them know
