90l Dwarf Puffer Jungle

nice tank tom, i see your a bit further than me :p Alright... alot further :D

Gorgeous tank! Makes me really miss having puffers :(
Oh well... when I find some space for another tank we all know what'll be living in it hehe.

Great looking tank! Forgive me if you've already answered this, but won't the puffers eat your shrimp?

Hehe, nice to see so much puffer love.

Brichamp, the puffers will eat baby shrimp, but the adults are left alone, so they're viable tankmates as long as you buy adult shrimp and don't expect them to breed. that's been my experience anyway, it may vary a bit with individual puffer personalities.

In other news, I've developed some sort of disease whereby I can't stop fiddling with the aquascape. Took the lid off to prune the amazon sword yesterday and ended up moving and replanting everything in the tank! Will post some updated pics later once the room gets dark. I'm also planning on retrofitting a T5 ballast into the current hood the next time I have some spare cash.

Would love to see more pics of your gang of little rascals

Your wish is my command!

A couple of shots of the tank first (excuse the muck, I managed to unload a ton of filter sludge into the tank whilst rescaping the other day and degunkification is proving to be a pain - how I miss those corys!):

As much fun as the puffers are, I'm actually considering swapping them already. My LFS currently has a tank of Scarlet Badis (Dario dario) which I'm sorely tempted by. A bunch of them, plus a pair of Apistogramma or checkerboard chichlids would look great. Could maybe squeeze in some corys/tetras/hatchets as well.

They've also got some beautiful chocolate gouramis.

Hmmmm!

 Keep the puffers until my tank is done ill take them!

Would only be able to have 2 though I think, but if you could save me 2 that get on together I would love you forever :D

   I like the new layout too :good:

I can see where you're coming from. It is a pity that these little puffs can't be kept with anything else (literally) and also they look so small in a "bigger" tank. How about getting another smaller tank and keep one or two

Would love to set up another tank but I'm going to be away a lot on fieldwork come September so will be relying on my flatmate to look after the tank, can't really go filling the house with more setups before buggering off for months at a time :p

Going to go have a look at these Scarlet Badis tomorrow and see how I feel.

Damnit I'm out of control :p

Just ordered a 2x 24W T5 ballast which I'm planning to retrofit into the existing hood, replacing the non-standard T8s. Also ordered ferts, bulbs and few other bits and pieces. Moving to Edinburgh on Monday (with the tank), so this is also the perfect time to redo the substrate and hardscape, but I haven't decided on what yet.

Can anyone recommend a complete subtsrate that would be OK with Khulie loaches? Preferably white or black.

I second Aaron's eco-complete suggesition, but the tank looked so nice before. Why so many changes so quickly? I'm just a little concerned that the puffers are undergoing so much tweaking and shifting about. First the cleaning, then the rescaping, now the planned substrate change. Just be careful, the puffers look great and they are still growing.

Puffers are going back to the LFS this week, I'm moving 560 miles away next week so going to take the opportunity to redo the scape and move back to a community setup. The fact I'm having to tear the tank down anyway makes it the perfect time for all the changes.
