90l Dwarf Puffer Jungle

Nice tank, how many dps?

Thanks, 6 puffers. Pushing it slightly for 90 litres but I bought them when they were too young to be sexed on the basis that I could rehome one or two if the males get too aggressive when they're older. Have 3M and 3F, the females are developing much faster and currently more aggressive than the males, so we'll just have to see how things pan out.

beautiful tank, looking much better and nice job with the riccia. I regret adding it to my 60l as it kept on growing after removing it over 6months  looks nice though.

Thanks. I fully expect to be battling riccia forever now, I've still got duckweed 2 years after some snuck in from somewhere!

Time for some creature shots I reckon.

And finally one of the little rascals considering doing something very badly behaved! She also seems to be sporting a bite mark which I hadn't noticed before.

Do they produce a lot of waste?

why do they need a big tank?

Yeah they're messy eaters (lots of meaty foods) and crap for England, plus they can get quite aggressive so you need to leave them plenty of space to hide out in if needed.

heeheeh so cute :D

mine is a great DP too; they are just great aren't they?

Really nice shots BigTom :good: You've got a little miss piggy there    I wonder what she's been gorging on

Heh yeah I've been overfeeding them slightly the last few days as one of the males is a bit of a runt and finds it hard to compete for food. I'm giving them more, less often so he has a better chance of snatching some. Does mean the females tend to look like they've swallowed a marble afterwards though

Hurrah! Nutrafin CO2 kit and trace ferts finally arrived today... only 3 and a half weeks after I ordered them. If anyone is ever tempted to order from gardensite.co.uk, don't!

Will be interesting to see what difference they make, the riccia seems to have been doing OK without them, no pearling though. The HC so far has done very little except go a bit yellow. Slow but steady growth form most other stuff thus far.

Hopefully the CO2 won't push the pH down too far, it was 6.5 before adding it, will report back on any changes... getting about 15 bubbles/pm, need to decide on best positioning now really.

Well the CO2 has certainly had an effect.

Almost as soon as I switched the lights on today the anubias and java fern started pearling. The riccia has produced a few small bubbles but not much, I'm guessing light might be the limiting factor there. No sign of any from the other plants.

It also seems to be causing some fairly significant pH swings... it was around 6.5 before adding the CO2, when I checked this morning before turning the lights on it was bottoming out the API test drops, so 6.0 or below, no way of telling without a low range test. Back up to 6.4 now after 10 hours lighting. Should I be worried about this? Tap water looks to be around 7.2-7.6. I don't have any water hardness tests but the water supply down here is generally pretty soft.

if you want to limit the pH swings then adding some bicarbonate soda will raise the KH (and therefore the buffering capacity).
I wouldnt be worried about it though, it shouldnt get any more acidic than pH6 anyway. unless you are wanting to breed them and they require specific parameters or they need it for something else (like snails need calcium etc) then they should be fine.

Very lovely tank! And cute pictures of your puffers too.
