8 New Bettas And A Whole New Problem :/

Haha my hubby would kill me if I had that many Bettas! I have two and he thinks it's crazy that I have to divide them. I think the most attractive way to separate males is with the pretty bowls, but they are way too small for my liking.

Too small and too many water changes. :/

i had 2 when i met my partner (the 2 males in disguise ) he doesn't know i have so many  i am still with my parents and he has his own place so i go to him.

Keeping my addiction quite :shifty:

I don't think it would go down well if you told him you are "fishy."

In fact, it would be quite amusing telling him that for him to then find out you have loads of bettas, cories and what not.

Agreed!

Lilfishie, what happens down the road?? He may get suspicious that you never let him come over  I can see how fish become addictive. This is the first time I've had my own fish (when I was a kid we had fish but I was never interested). I keep thinking " I need more plants, I need a bigger tank, I need MORE bettas!

He aint too fussed i keep telling him to come round see my babies  he said i can have a big tank if i get some nice big fish and he choses, sounds like a plan :shifty:

That's the point at which you agree, get the tank and then tell him he doesn't know enough about aquatics and what fish are compatible. You then take over!

now that sounds like a plan.

i managed to get tomorrow off so going to give dividing one of the 8 gals ago, think i will start with the empty one

hoping it fits on my dressing table :shifty:

Have you ever thought of buying polycarbonate sheeting to use as dividers. You can buy that stuff at hardware stores. Measure up your tanks and get your sheets cut to size. You can divide up your tank with 3-4 sheets then use a small piece to slot into them at the top to secure them. When you want to breed a pair remove one of the sheets. I've done mine that way works really well no need to buy more tanks.

Hi. I really like the idea of polycarbonate sheeting. I have a store bought divider and it's so ugly with the thick teal plastic up against the tank. How does the air filter between the sheets? Did you drill tiny holes? Thanks :good:
No the sheets aren't tight enough to restrict anything. I wasn't worried about if the bettas got oxygen they just need the aeration to keep the bio s happy. It seems to be ok its not water tight. But if the sheets are too loose the fry sometimes visit their nextdoor neighbours ha ha ha.

Lilfishie I hope it works out! That's so nice to be able to have so many bettas! I would keep a dozen if I had a big enough tank and a more attractive way to divide them.

i just wish i had the space to give them each a tank but i don't so next best thing

Bettas and cories are taking over my bedroom

Betta count at 15  (4 males, 7 females and 4 falx)
I love cories do you keep the bettas and cories together? I had a little bronze cat fish and a female betta together in a tank. She was a nasty piece...ended up pecking the eyes out of my little bronze. I'm not game to put other fish with bettas because of her.

i do yes, one male lives with pygmys (there moving out his afternoon to join 6 more in my 15 gal with my wilds) and my 7 females live with a mix of cories

Prince attacked my last peppered cory and killed it even though she was double his size
