Almost certainly a foreign substance has entered the water. When the chemistry and temp check out, nothing else will kill fish faster.
Columnaris bacteria will kill fish very fast like that with no symptoms, as well as like ammonia-nitrite poisoning. With ammonia-nitrite poisoning, initial symptoms are breathing heavy at the surface. The most aggressive variety of Columnaris will wipe out the tank fast with no early telltale symptoms.Almost certainly a foreign substance has entered the water. If the cat's paws, which are loaded with bacteria from a litter box, contact the water, that can be a source of badness too.
