75G Planted For Beginners. Haha.

This is me. :kana: It may seem odd, but I am dancing because my khulis hid all day. :fun: I see one every once in awhile sifting sand near the base of a plant, the rest are in their caves. It's a good sign and I am optimistic. I will definitely do a water change again tomorrow now, it seemed to help. 3 of the four panda cories are still pale, so I hope that will be the ticket for them too. I wanted melafix in the water for the angelfish, but I need the cories and kuhlis healthy. I will just watch the angelfish closely and see if it is healing without meds.

I reduced my lighting to 8 hours. I am seeing a few types of alage and don't want to lose my handle on it. I know the biggest cause is the fluctuating co2. I think I have a handle on that though now. The rest of the algae COATING everything are diatoms. I'm brushing that off most of the surfaces with a toothbrush, during water changes, hope it goes away quickly.

Looking great! I have to say, I was shocked comparing "before and after" pics of my tank too. The gradual change is almost not noticeable until you see it in a side by side. Love the wood, by the way!

Thanks :) Do you have a journal or pics up somewhere? Would love to see!

I do! 'Tis here: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/390913-first-shot-at-a-planted-tank/

Well. I may be seeing a little bit of oxygen bubbles rising off a few plants. My melon sword has a stream of bubbles coming slowly from the center, and both anubias plants with new leaves starting have a nice steady stream of bubbles rising from the joint. I hope this means I'm in the right direction with co2 and ferts. I'm not seeing any signs of deficiencies right now, no new pin holes.

I am very worried about the diatoms and if my plants are being suffocated by them. I am brushing it off with a toothbrush, but I'm trying hard to leave the tank alone so my poor fish can heal and settle down. I can't help worrying that something is still not right with the khulis and cories.

Can't say it enough. I love Rasboras. I want a different species in my other tank.

Definitely diatoms, it's not as bad today, I've been cleaning it for 2 days. It's harder to carefully clean it off the dwarf sagittaria, but the swords and crypts are fine.

I read somewhere that it is common for khuli's to chase each other on the glass when the lights are off, but I don't always trust everything that I read on the internet. I guess if they hide when the lights are on, I'll figure out if somethings wrong.

I am so mad. Insanely angry. The kind of mad the raises blood pressure, and makes you need to smash something. With a baseball bat even.

I have been endlessly researching fish symptoms, treatments, all of it for weeks. Nothing is working and no one has any answers. I had to euthanize an Apisto today because of this mystery illness that is resistant to medication. My Lfs actually told me that they think they are dying because my tank is too new, but they have been moved to a different tank so how does the new tank theory make sense? That's after I listed the symptoms. I have not had any other fish die. Just the apistogrammas. Thanks for the useless help with the sick fish you charged me a kidney for.

In order:

Pale
Flicking/flashing
white-stringy poop
Hiding more in caves
Darkening in color {not in a good way}
Stop eating
Spine curves
Breathing slows
{Dead or euthanized.} By this point they look like they are suffering badly.

The last 2 of the 6 are at different stages. One is hiding in the caves and darkening. The other is pale. I haven't noticed any flashing since I no longer sit there for 30 minutes staring in trying to figure it out when there is nothing left for me to do.

I have tried medications for everything. Nothing stronger is available, even the lfs owner said so. These fish are dropping one by one and I have no idea what could be wrong with them.

I am worried about the cories in the 75 now, 2 of them have not colored up. There are 4 so I would expect them to be ok by now, even without a full school of them. Which I can't add without knowing if the tank is contaminated.

I'm so angry.
What the hell am I supposed to do.

Fish becoming darker, white stringy poo, then it could be hexamita
This takes ages to cure if it is hexamita

I could hug you really. I overlooked that because of how closely it's relate to Hole in the Head, and the apistos have no outward syptoms other then the feces and their coloring.

I'll look into it. In that case, It's possible my whole house is infected...all 6 tanks :(

I had a platy in the same tank because I bought it at the same time for about a week. It looked great and I moved her after another week in a qt to my 46g.

If the platy is not pooping white and not showing other signs she may be unaffected. It is contagious but some of the fish are stronger and can fight it off without getting sick.

Edit: Check your other thread. I added a few suggestions for treatment that has worked for me and is easy to treat with.

It could be fish TB http://www.fishdeals.com/fish_diseases/curved_spine/. Fish TB is very very rare, it is possible that the fish was sick with more than one thing. Do you still have the apisto? Would you be willing to do a necropsy?

Also, have you tried adding salt?

Edit: It could also be a vitamin deficiencies (as it can cause lethargy, scoliosis, not eating and maybe even discolored feces as this is the case with people) or it could be too many minerals or heavy metals in the water or some other containment.

I thought of TB at first, but that's not how their spines curved. They were more curled in on themselves sideways, all I could think when I saw them was that they were suffering. Like an old man hunched over, only to their side. I was doing salt dips at first, because of the khulis, with no effect. I don't what kind of contaminate it could be, they are dying off one by one.

I never looked into it being hexamita because it is related to hole in the head and I never saw it separate.

I don't have a good fish keeping resource here and after a MONTH of searching for help, I have nothing but this forum. Any kind of autopsy/necropsy...not happening unless I do it, and I don't have the tools.
