6X2X2 For Tiger Barbs....

Great project! To keep a larger group of tiger barbs is a dream in the back of my head too

Also I still haven't found any info on large shoals of tiger barbs in aquariums.....
I guess there is none.

Imho I would not mix different forms and I would go for the wild form if possible and not take those degenerated breeding forms. Furthermore with 100 you might already be overstocked, so I would start with about 30 and go for a lovely asian tank theme, adding a group of loaches and would try some gourami too (in small tanks there are problems hausing them together but in a large tank with a larger group of tiger barbs this should be worth a try

).

I'm not to worried about over stocking, The stocking will be gradual regardless. I actually cannot stand Gouramis so they're a no go in my books! I am also going to want some MTS to turn over my substrate, thus eliminating loaches as well.

I am going over a few ideas in my head, but I'm not really sure what else I want with them yet.

Have you started this up yet?
Still in the process of getting all the stuff I need, Wood etc. I was African cichlids for years, I have next to nothing for planted tanks! I've got all my wood now, I've decided i will be going soil base capped with play sand. I've bought a 4 bulb t5 light, which I may run along side my existing 2 bulb one, for 6 bulbs in total.

I know it's a slow process! I plan to do a journal when I get into it though

Go for pool filter sand instead of the play sand, ive just swapped and my plants are growing so much better + I think it looks more natural.
Ive always read about having them in groups but never heard anything about a large group, 100 barbs would be interesting to see when you feed them as they are pretty fast.

Im sure i read that pool filter sand isn't very good as a cap, I may be imagining that however.......

Done that..

6x2x2, sand. Large roots, black water, LED spot lights, about 45 adult tiger barbs..

Had it for year. It was one of the best setup I ever had..

Tiger barb tear up then? Any casualties, or was 45 enough to spread aggression?

Were the different shoals different colour morphs?

Zero deaths.. But lot of fighting.
No deaths is significant though, it means they know when to give up! Hopefully.....

It's a shame you didn't keep anything with them, It's hard to say what will be safe from such a big shoal. My stocking ideas so far are Tiger Barbs and 1 Red tail black shark.....

Should look into m-f ratios
Not sure how much luck i'll have with that, I think ultimatley I end up with what I end up with! It would be nice to breed them, But we shall see....
