Should look into m-f ratios
Not sure how much luck i'll have with that, I think ultimatley I end up with what I end up with! It would be nice to breed them, But we shall see....

I mean for aggression, I had 12 tiger barbs with a 6 to 6 ratio (if I remember correctly) and I had male fights quite often. Nothing to serious and quite interesting to see, face to face swimming in circles chasing eachother and guarding a female.

I see your point. Not sure how practical it's going be though, I'm not even sure on sexing tiger barbs if i'm honest. Mainly because i've never tried, I'm assumeing it isn't hard?

I'm really struggling to come up with compatible tank mates! Red tail black shark and then I'm stumped. It needs to be right first time as I don't have multiple tanks to rehome fish if it all goes wrong now. Tiger Barbs are vicous little sods!

Red tail shark is bad idea in my opinion. Its known to upset the barbs.

Why do you need tank mates? Try without

Because my days of 20 odd tanks are gone and who wants just 1 species? I'm also quite adamant something can co exist with them! They need to get on with 6 big synodontis regardless as I already have them!

I have a one species tank. I have a 5 ft x 3 ft x 2 ft with jus boesemani rainbow fish in. In my opinion it looks amazing but I dont like tanks with loads of different speicies in.

Males tend to have bright orange noses.
I had dwarf cichlids without any problems, you'd want to avoid fancy/long finned fish as they will nip. Tiger barbs aint that bad though, the only problem I had with them is there superfast and my other fish wasn't getting a chance with the food.

It's all still in planning and I need her to decide what she wants doing with the living room first! The tank needs moving for decorating and that is when the magic happens!

As far as I can tell very little is actually a good match up for Tiger Barbs, So I need to look at levels of the tank.

Has anyone tried Kribs with tigers?

I was just going to say any robust cichlid with a minimum size will have no problems with tiger barbs. Kribs should be fine imho.
The point is do you want any other fish to interfere with their behaviour?

Cool idea, will follow thread to check results...............I always liked Tiger Barbs but  never had any luck keeping other fish with them.

I've been doing a bit more research, and I'm now leaning towards a biotope. My first though is Kuhli Loaches for the bottom, I've found a lot of people saying not to mix them with Tigers. However everyone who has kept them together says they are fine together, just looking for peoples experiences on keeping them together.

Personal opinion I think it would look absolute amazing with a massive piece of bog wood an live plants

I have picked up lots off wood including an oak branch that is the full length of the tank :)

I saw one near me on ebay, 16 inches long! The guy wanted 80 quid for it...... Just a common plec, and he wasn't for shifting on price.
