I wouldn't have said you really had the space for anything similarly sized as the DG, esp given you also have BNs. You could probably squeeze in a pair of Peacock Gobies.

So if I am good with water changes, can I add 3 or 4 small cories to my tank?

Update.

I now have

1 BN Pleco
3 Platys
4 Guppies
1 Dwarf Gourami

& ... 13 Cardinal Tetras (didn't mean to get that many)

I am happy doing 2 changes per week, and many not fully grown yet anyway.

What should I upgrade (cheaply if poss) my Interpet PF2 filter too, to handle these extra 13 fish?!

Personally I believe that 13 cardinal tetras is fully stocked for a 64 litre before adding them to a fully stocked tank.

I'd recommend rehoming some fish (probably at least the plec who are very messy and have if the cardinals) or getting a 125l+ tank.

In the short term the only way to tell whether your filter is keeping up is keep testing for ammonia/nitrite. If that's constantly nil then your filter is keeping up - then your only problem will be nitrate which you can only resolve by doing water changes.

If you stick too big of a filter in a 64 litre tank you'll end up with a washing machine

Thanks for the response.

See I started out responsibly, then did something silly.

The readings have been fine, but i've been very methodical with water changes since adding the Tetras. Does anyone have a recommendation for a powerful filter for my tank? Would changing filter media be easy? Currently have Interpet PF2.

I didn't ask for 13 tetras, I asked for 9, and somehow the guy put 13 in the bag - I originally counted 11 when I first got home. So it's been a comedy of errors, but realise 9 would also have been too many.

So I need to look at a 2nd tank, or a larger tank now if the filter upgrade isn't going to work as I don't really have much chance of re-homing the fish to be honest.

My readings are still very good. I have remained methodical with cleaning though.

Maybe I have been lucky so far, or maybe due to the fish not being fully grown I have encountered no problems yet?

UPDATE

I picked up a Juwel Rekord 800 on Saturday, so upgraded to 110L. No longer overstocked!

Some mature media has been moved across, and I am gradually moving stock across.

Can we see a pic of your new set up please?
I like to have a nosey at what folks do :)

Yeah of course.

I have quite a few plants in my 64L, along with the Platys and Guppies, so the stocking for the new one so far is 1 Dwarf Gourami, 13 Cardinal Tetras and 1 BN Pleco.

I am considering adding Angelfish, German Blue Rams, possibly Panda Corys.

Would still appreciate tips, even though my tank is now 110L! I still have a lot of plants and bogwood in the other tank too which will be moved in 2 weeks when the 64L is shut down

Looks nice! Hope your pleased with it?

Don't think the dwarf gourami and angels would go well though.

Corys would go well, but you would need a minimum of six. :)

Whats wrong with a Angel and Dwarf Gourami mix? That could really scupper my plans.

It doesn't really matter, I don't think that 64L is big enough for angelfish, Gouramis and angels sometimes don't get along, but its really 50/50

Tek oot.

My new tanks 110L, sorry for the confusion. I will start a new thread soon. Or a Journal.

How many angels are in the 110l? I would probs just have one in there. Also, They angel will have a go at the drawfs, Easily. Angels can be quite mean and in a small space it will pick at a lot :p
