5Ft Tank Build

Is that just expanding foam you have used to create texture ? I've always wanted to try one of these but never known how or had questions answered. What makes it water safe, is that the final coatings of render ? Do you need to put a weight on the bottom to make sure it sinks properly or do you think the weight of the object will be enough ?
Can't wait to see it finished :)

Yep expanding foam used, a large tin. I will prolly grab a small tin tomorrow to fill in some bit and pieces, to get the shape i want. The sealer is what will make it safe, the render will also be sealed in

This will need to be fully siliconed into the tank, as no amount of rocks added will make it sink lol trust me!

I will get it done as quick as i can. I need to wait at least 4 hours for the expanding foam to cure, then i can shape some more, clean up some areas, decide what areas need more filling. If i fill in more, it will be another 4 hours.

The waiting is what sux, but its gotta be done in stages, it will be weeks til its actually in the tank

Thank you BLF :D

Looking great so far! Can't wait to see when it's done :D

Looking forward to seeing the project unravel and come to life Alasse, keep up the good work :good:

James.

Nin - i cant wait to get it done too :D

james - I'll be doing some more to it today, i wanna really get all the foam work finished today so i can get it divided into 3 for a tank fitting, then onto the rendering :)

Updated pic - Still a bit of trimming to do yet (divided into 6 to fit it into the tank)

Interesting, but wouldn't this decrease the actual gallon % by about 1/3? It seems like it's quite thick and takes up a lot of room in the tank? It looks amazing though.

Doesnt decrease it much, no different than adding decor (wood, rocks, plants etc) & filters/heaters/etc to a backgroundless tank, It certainly isnt taking up a third. Where the corners curve around the sides, behind that is still tank water (for the filters/heater/powerheads/etc
I have got livestock picked out for this tank, i will be buying them young and growing them out, stunning fish when adults. I'll tell ya'll when i get em in tank :)

Still got to make a few larger foreground rocks with caves for the fish to swim through. But too darn hot here at the moment to do much of anything :)

Wow Alasse looks really good so far. I really can't wait to see the finished product! I'm a follower! :)

ok i was on a mobile device before but now i can see the spacing, looks great I cannot wait to see the progress on this build keep up the good work

Waiting out the hot weather for now, i cant start rendering until it cools down a bit, the heat dries the render too fast and it will crack unless i spritz it with water every few minutes

once it cools weather wise i will get started

Hoping to start rendering tomorrow, hanging to get started, actually hanging to get it finished lol I want my new fishies!

Can't wait to see it finished & especially can't wait to see your fish! :)

They will be a bit boring at first as i am buying the quite young, but once the mature, stunning fishies they will be!
