A few months ago i bought a 130L tank and quickly got bored with the size

So i purchased a 5ftx2ftx2ft tank and a heap of ADA soil

I added some driftwood and plants and after the tank was quick cycled using filter media from the 130L i added 20 Cardinals

Followed by 4 young discus and some more plants

After the tank was running for a month i transferred over the other driftwood, plants and fish.

i have been adding ferts every other day and the growth on most plants have been good.

Hopefully over the next few weeks the plants will grow some more and fill out the tank.

Thanks, just moved some stuff around on the left hand side of the tank and swapped some plants today. Oh and added two more discus

Some shots of my new Red Turquoise

Slowly getting better at taking photos of them.

The Discus all seem to spend their time huddled in the corners. Is that usual or just for the video?

They are easily spooked and if one gets upset they all go and hide in the corner, i'll be watching them swim around the tank and as soon as i pull the camera out off they go. I got the shots above by taking the pics before i fed them : ) They are all pretty new so i am slowly working with them, just feeding them and sitting there while they eat so they warm to me.

I've read this behaviour on here before. Camera shy. Maybe holding the camera while you watch them might get them used to it being around. Just an idea... Great tank btw.... Is it sumped?

I'm looking at buying a tripod so i can leave the camera infront of the tank all day while i'm at work and they are their most active. Hopefully they will learn it's not a threat and not hide from it all day.

No i don't have a sump, i have a Fluval FX5 on the left hand side and a eheim 2217 on the right.

Yeah the pipes are a bit of a give away....

Well I was too busy looking at the discus. That's my excuse anyway...

Man I love the colors. This really makes me want to rethink the direction on my 4 ft tank...

What's your pH kept at and what kind of water do use, RO or tap water? I ask because, A. I WILL HAVE DISCUS some day even if it kills me or ends my marriage, and B. I think I read somewhere that discus can be jumpy if they are kept in a higher pH. Is that true?

Ph sits pretty steady around 6 with the ADA soil and driftwood. I'm no discus expert but i have read they do ok up to around 7.5 as long as they are acclimated to it. I have three 3L inline filters i use to fill the tank directly from my kitchen mixer tap at 28 degrees. The first filter to take out the large particles and the second two have charcoal to remove the chlorine. I change 30-50% daily and 90% once a week so it makes life a lot easier.
