I have a 5 gallon tank and i was wondering if i could put cory catfish and guppies in it, and if so, how many of each could i have?

of course you can, you could put an aligater in a 5 gallon' but i know what you meen. you coult put one cory and about 12-15 guppies. they should be confterble if your water settings are good.

 I hope you meant 2-5 guppies...I don't think there would be any room for water.

I think you'd need two or three cories though. They really do enjoy being in groups. If you'd get albino or panda cories, they're usually a smaller cory so you could have two cories and two guppys. Hope this helps. :)

Well, yes they could physically fit in a five gallon tank, but for the health of the fish, I think the "one gallon per one inch of fish" rule would be best. :)

Yes, 2-5 guppies sounds about right. Keep in mind that if you get both males and females, your tank will soon be overpopulated, since it's pretty much impossible to keep them from breeding. It might be best to get just one sex for that small a tank. If you want the babies, then get only one male and several females.

I wouldn't recommend cories for such a small tank. As dixaisy930 said, they want company and should ideally be in groups of 6 or more, which won't fit in there. By the way, albino cories are usually albino bronze cories, so they do get larger than panda cories.

I agree with Morrgan, 2-5 guppies. I think a 5 gal is too small for corys. Thank god there are people watching out for bad advice as well as good. I,de hate to think someone would contemplate putting 10-15 fish in a five gal.

wow, even puting 7 would be bad, where did u come up with 10-12!?

1. the tank would get dirty very quick
2. the guppies would be cramped and unhappy,
&
3.thats wayyyyyyy over stocking!

stick with 2 - 6

the 3-5 guppy suggestion is good. you could just put 3 or 4 corys (like pandas) and nothing else. or if you wanted some corys to clean up after your couple of guppies, there are the corydoras hastatus (pygmy cories), they only grow to about 3/4 inch and are just tiny little guys, wouldn't really take up much space. with a tank that small, just be sure to watch your water parameters and do good maintanence. :)

I'm not sure that you should put corys and guppies together in a 5 gal and it's not because they aren't compatible, it's because the corys should live in a group and the guppies should also live in a group but your tank isn't big enough to hold 2 different species group. I would recommend 3-5 guppies like the others said OR 3-5 corys.

what i woudl imagibne being the best situwation (sorry about spelling) is that u had a trio of guppys one male and two females and two cories maybe three if u get eally small species :D now thats aperfect little set up ..!!! :D

OR! You could have a small planted tank with an Oto and a few male guppies..
Keeping a planted tank really isn't all that hard, as long as you don't over do it with the fertilizers.

It's much more relaxing to see *real* plants move about and how the fish interact towards them.
