4th Spawning Attempt

It would be kind of interesting to study the backgrounds of the fish that produced the double tail spawn, though. Too bad there isn't a registery with the information out there.
I agree, since the father came from Singapore,I'll never have that opportunity. My oranges so far, have proven to carry CT,HM and now DT geno :S

Nobody plans on spawning this strain that far, but I can appreciate your concern. I just don't appreciate coming into a thread blindlessly and reading bad things about fish that I paid an arm and a leg for. :)

LOL! now shayddup ppl! lets get back to 55gallon! now what were you gonna say b4 all this hullaballo happened 55? lol

betta_lova: "sucked up her fish"? What are you talking about?

wuv: I said no offense, and I honestly meant that. It was from a neutral, scientific standpoint. Your fish are pretty -- even the ones with problems. I respect that well enough. I don't even mind inbreeding now and then to strengthen the line. I just can't agree with 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th generations. I don't really see a problem with up to 3rd.

and yes, I "observe" breeding because I won't bring fry into the world I cannot yet care for. That is just as wrong as flushing a fish for being an inconvience, in my opinion.

And yes, I know I am stubborn and opinionated. I love the species, and its painful to see a long line of inbreeds with bad deformities. And no, that is not saying you are really guilty of that. I understand "CRAP HAPPENS" in a line. Happens with humans too. One mutated gene can cause a lot of problems.

Its just when breeders take it to extremes and insist that going up to 7th or 8th generation doesn't at all harm the fish, is when I start wishing i had a bat to hit them with. :/

I don't think you'd do that, at least, not intentionally. I do think you're smart enough and a good enough breeder to stop the line if it gets to the point that theres nothing but problems... and I'd even trust that you wouldn't sell them as breeders to other people.

That is more than what I'd say for some of the breeders I've heard of. ;/

But, I think I've had enough for now. This is really starting to stress me out. They aren't my fish, so I shouldn't be getting uber stressed over this. I just care about the fish.

My apologies.

Sorry 55 :*)

I was a little shocked when I came in here and I had to rush to the defense of my babies.

I'm just saying this....
I'm completely up front and honest with you guys about my breeding experiences.I'm not going to hurry up and kill the 'uh-oh's' and act like they never existed. But I refuse to let my CULLS effect the quality of my fish.

No hard feelings,Becca. I understand and hear your points. And I appreciate you acknowledging that you know I'm not going to breed the strain into the ground :) Because I have no intentions of doing that whatsoever.

Y'know, I just read this whole thread, and I'm going to say it - becca, for someone who has been caring for bettas for less than 3 months (according to your early posts, you had just started, and that was the beginning of June), you sure come off as a sanctamonious know-it-all. Your information is not always right, yet you always present it like it's carved in stone. And it's funny how you always end up pissing off those who have been successfully keeping bettas for years. I appreciate that you love bettas, but reading about them for a couple of months does not compare to some of the real life experiences some of the betta caretakers here have had - yet you always seem to have some little comment about what they are doing wrong.

Oh, and by the way - we saw "deformed" fish (that'd be fish with flaws) at the show, enterd - in the professional classes even. Curly fins, gill plate issues - we saw lots of them. Wanna know what the judges called them? - "flaws" or "faults". But I'm sure you know better then them, too

Anyways - 55, good luck on the spawn, I bet they'll be beautiful!
Thanks for the luck cation.....
