Just looking for some stocking ideas for a 4ft, ~270 litre Tanganyikan setup?

Was considering something along the lines of...

Altolamprologus Compressiceps
Neolamprologus Leleupi
Neolamprologus Pulcher 'Daffodil'

Unsure of anything else, unsure if they would fit, unsure of numbers... So... Over to you...

Thankyou please. :D

Been thinking of a similar situation myself, having just got a 4.5 foot, 300ish litre tank up and running. I'm thinking along the lines of:

8 brevis shellies from my old tank (did have 4 adults but they got jiggy)
5 julidochromis transcriptus for the rocks
Probably a couple (or just one male) alto. Compressiceps as they look so awesome, need to wait for the brevis juvies to get a bit bigger tho
3 synodontis petricola catfish
Probably a shoal of 8-12 cyprochrimis leptosoma for the open water at the top

Nice... although i'm not fussed about Brevis. Nice idea with the Petricola though :D

Hi, I'm going to strip down and redo my 4' 240ltr in the new year, going to be juggling some fish about. . .
I'm not a big fan of lots of rocks and like my tanks fairly open looking, so was thinking small rocks and shell area for sumbu shell, 9 or 10 Cyps on the top and looking into xenotilapia bathyphilus (had these before and thought they looked great) or Xenotilapia papillio

Lots of scope for you in your 4', I like your idea of of the 3 types you have chosen, your comp will add population control and your leleupi a splash of colour and movement, I like the pulcher but don't know what they would be like when they started breeding  , lotsof rocks and you could have a nice set up..... :good:

Cheers, Sean

Thanks Sean. Would all the fish i mentioned be ok then? If so how many numbers? Also, if not the Daffs, then what? Looking for some colour so probably nothing like Brevis etc as the tank will probably have dull looking hardscape.

Thanks.

See what you mean about brevis not being that spectacular but under the right light their colours are stunning. Mine have brilliant purple blotches around their faces and metallic green gill covers, the females have bright gold/yellow splotches behind their pectoral fins. They also get this cool zebra striped effect over their whole body when flaring or showing off.

I think you're about there already bud, you don't want it like Picadilly Circus , i.e some if the tank s I'm running just now, I forgot about your group of Cyps, wondering what the leleupi would be like with them  , do you like julis ?

Cheers, Sean

I wouldn't bother with cyps I don't think.

I like juli's but unsure if they would go with the ones I mentioned.

I'm happy with the 3 I mentioned if people think they would work.

What kind of numbers are we talking about then?

Think the Cyps would be ok with the leleupi, think it was Elisew that had leleupi in the community tank, think the only problem was they attacked the multies for the fry... If you're not getting adults probably down to getting a few of each and let them pair up and remove the extras. lelupi for your shelly , pulcher for the rocks, cyp open water, what kind of somps you after ? Some really nice big ones avaliable just now, big fan :good:

Cheers, Sean

I may consider cyps then.

Not fussed which comps, I like goldheads or the other yellow one, I forget the name.

got my julies last week while I was off over christmas, great little fish, they do this crazy thing where they keep their bellies parallel to whatever they are swimming over, weird seeing them swimming the length of the back glass of the tank with their whole bodies tilted at 90 degrees! Friendly little guys too, always come to say hello when I go up to the tank :)

So now I have a 300 litre tank with 13 pretty small fish (8 brevis- although seems they might be calliurus? and 5 julies). Not sure what to add next? ideas?
