45 Gallon Reef Diary From Setup To...?

Yesterday, December 19th, 2006, a date that will live in infamy, the United Reef of SkiFletch was suddenly and deliberately attacked by forces of The Empire of Aiptasia. The Reef was at peace with that nation at the solicitation of Aiptasia, was still in conversation with the government and its emperor looking toward the maintenance of peace in the Reef....

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger. With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounding determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God.

Let battle be joined. :shout:

"We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in our Reef, we shall fight on the seas of Instant Ocean and RO, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength, we shall defend our Aquarium, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches of aragonite, we shall fight for coral, we shall fight in the mounds of liverock; we shall never surrender"

I can highly recommend Joe's Juice ;)

I had 4 or 5 Aiptasia on a new piece of LR from my local LFS. But a quick blast from JJ and they have gone, and no trace since.

Hopefully my soon to be introduced peppermint shrimps, will deal with any new growths?

Yeah, I'm off to get a peppermint shrimp tonight. Figure he'll be cool to have even if I manage to kill the stinkin aip with kalkwasser :)

The bigger ones are, 45, 65, 75, and up are all 2' or taller tanks. The 55 is the only "larger" tank which is not 2' tall.

Phew, just spent the best part of two hours reading through this thread, reading it out to the other half, and we both feel like we've been on the journey with you Ski! What a fab thread, I've learnt a lot, and your story has encouraged the other half to show a bit of interest in my research, so thanks!!

Tank is looking fab, long live the United Reef of SkiFletch, may there be victory in the battle against the enemy that is Aiptasia.

Congress declared war on the Empire of Aiptasia today and earmarked funds to route the enemy. Unfortunately, Command must wait on a new shipment of arms before its mission can continue. Chemical warfare should commence shortly. In the meantime, a visual update on the theatre is in order:

Looks great ski! All of your corals are growing in wonderfully! And just like you said, those mushrooms are loving that bottom corner and growing like wildfire. I can't wait until things have really branched out. Soon you won't even see the LR. It'll look even more beautiful!

Since the un-provoked invasion by the Armies of Aiptasia, Reef Command has merely planned its next move, lulling the enemy into a false sense of security. Today, the first of a potential 4 wave assault began. Reef Command Commissioned a new specialist amidst the Army. May I introduce to you all the head of the Special Forces division, Major Richard "Peppermint" Drayson:

Major Drayson was enlisted as a well trained assassin. The Major is well trained in the art of killing these powerful creatures. Major Drayson refuses to divulge his methods and tactics regarding his abilities, yet has time and again proven his worth to many allied nations. Major Drayson's talents are very limited to his ability to assassinate aiptasians, yet command has high hopes for his success in the first wave.

Unfortunately in a case of successful or attempted fratricide, Admiral Hastings had different ideas. Upon introducing Major Drayson into the theater to begin setting up a base of operations, Admiral Hastings moved in and viciously assaulted Major Drayson. The Major immediately ran for cover and seemed to fined a cave underneath a civilian and within the rock structure, but not before taking multiple hits from Admiral Hasting's powerful beak. Major Drayson's last point of contact is off the intelligence network of Reef Command, so we can only hope that he survived the assault and is planning his own against the invaders.

Command had no choice but to try Admiral Hastings by court marshall. After many pleas by the Admiral, the military Tribunal set him free with a merely a slap on the wrist. 2 Months on station with no option for recreational leave. The tribunal clearly seeks a swift internal resolution to the matter and is banking on the as yet un-confirmed survival of Major Drayson. Only time will tell, yet in the absence of contact with Major Drayson, Command is gathering war material to begin chemical warfare.
