40g breeder plans...

Awesome! Thank you!
Yes, this piece of wood is totally dry...

Also, (sorry for the extra question), but I want to mix a bit of soil in with the quikrete play sand to give it a more river substrate feel and color. But I don't want to wait like 3-6 months for a soil to "be ready" for fish... Is there any soil type I should look for that should be just fine to add into the 40g? Inert, so it won't affect water parameters at all.
I want my substrate to be of a darker coloration. Not black, like a mid-brown if you get what I'm saying? Lol. That's what I'm trying to go for...

I would never do this, using soil. Soil will be mud. While that is "authentic," it works in nature but not within the confines of an aquarium where this mess will cause problems, depending upon what is in it. The organic content is the prime source of the ammonia issue.

As for colour, one of the inert aquarium sands will work.

Why can't you just get a darker sand to mix in with it? Soil is not the best idea imo.

Sadly I have not found any relatively cheap darker colored sands... Dang...

Thank you for the info though! I kinda figured the answer would be like that 😅
It was a thing I KINDA knew, but wanted to confirm 😅

Alright... BIG NEWS.
I have permission to set up the tank! Now it won't be today or tomorrow lol. Probably in the next coming weeks as I prepare here for it and I do further research to completely be ready...

Final stocking decision I want to share. Any inputs are welcome. I WILL NOT change the gudgeons or sterbai cory. Those two stay for good and I know their compatible.

- x5 Peacock Gudgeons
- x15 Sterbai Corydoras
- x9-11 Pseudomugil Luminatus
- x9-11 Brilliant Rasbora (I saw these guys at the pet store and absolutely loved them! But I am open to change if necessary.)

@Byron, @GaryE, @WhistlingBadger (sorry for the tags if its a bother)

I had a brilliant rasbora in my Sumatra tank. He came in accidentally with some emerald eye rasboras. Really cool little fish, and will look amazing in a big group. Congratulations!

Thanks!! That's cool that you got a little accidental addition lol. "Happy little accidents" 😅
I'm really happy that my stocking decision is so far checking out!

Question... Can all the plants I want survive in the 40h tank without many fish in there for sometime? They will have a really nice amount of high quality root tabs as well

How do I ensure that the bga from this tank, doesn't go to the 40g? I'm going to be cleaning the rocks off really well and the lighting schedule will be different as well. (I'll probably be changing to a nicrew classic led as well when I can)...

Also, for QT purposes, can the 10g hold all 11 brilliant rasboras for just a month?

For a month, probably. They get up to around 2" long and they're quite active, but they're also tough little critters and can put up with just about anything for a short time.

By the way, I assume you're talking about Rasbora borapetensis, correct? There's another species called "brilliant rasbora" that isn't nearly as cool IMO. R. borapetensis have red tails.

Yup! Thats the species I'm speaking of. Sorry for not being more specific...
