I AM NEW TO FISH KEEPING AND ORIGANALLY WANTED TO KEEP MARINE FISH - BUT THAUGHT IT BETTER TO START WITH TROPICAL FISH TO BEGIN WITH.
I WOULD LIKE TO KEEP CICHLIDS BUT HAVING READ VARIOUS ARTICLES HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSIONS THAT THIS TANK WOULD BE TO SMALL TO HOLD ADULTS - SOME DEALERS HAVE TOLD ME THIS IS NOT THE CASE - HAS ANYONE GOT ANY OTHER IDEASAND CAN ALSO INFORM ME OF OTHER REALLY NICE COLOURFUL FISH IF I DECIDE NOT TO STOCK CICHLIDS - I LIVE OUT IN THE STICKS AND IT IS QUITE A HIKE TO THE NEAREST STOCKIST PLUS THEY HAVE LIMITED STOCK

Hi Dave.....:hi: to the forums.

Firstly, just as a note...don't type your posts in capital letters. It is assumed among users that if someone uses capitals then they are SHOUTING!! :D

In response to your question, it depends what cichlids you want to keep  . There are many, many types of cichlids. Some would be good in your tank but some would not.

Have a browse through the two cichlids forums on here (African and New World) to get some ideas first and when you have your plan in place let us know.

Sorry :/ , not much help I know but it gives you a starting point.

Thanks for the advice steve,

I will have a look at what you suggested and get back to you.

I would also suggest testing the pH and KH of your tap water. That may help you decide what fish you can keep. It is much easier to keep fish that are suited for the normal pH of your water than it is to try to adjust the pH of your water to suit your fish. That can be a never ending battle and the fish ware the ones that suffer.
