3 Strikes & You're Out

 That seems to be the only way these days to tell them apart. It really is a headache with some of them. The only way we've found out is that these girls were all in divided tanks with adult males on the other sides. They are fed well and eventually the eggs let loose :fun:

I know I am a newby, but I thought you could tell the sex by the white oviduct spot underneith thier bodys between their fins?

Am I wrong?

Yeah, it's not very reliable. A few of my males have got them too.

The usual signs given for females are all fallible really.
Egging up when well fed - a fat male can look full of eggs.
The white ovipositor spot - loads of males have it.
Shorter fins - Plakat. Need I say more. Besides some females these days have longer fins than PK males.
Horizontal lines on the body. These appear on males as well when stressed. Put a female in a cosy tank alone and they vanish.

every female I have spawned makes a little bubblenest in the hurricane glass before I let her loose.

I hate trying to figure out which is which. after more fish drama I need to move the tanks again and Im puttign my male suspect next to a male this time instead of in the girls divided tank.
