I got a 28 gallon tank with no fish in it right now and I was wondering what the biggest size of fish i could keep in there is and how many fish i can keep in it. also suggestions would be nice!
You might well keep one of the more docile fish like a rainbow cichlid in a tank that size. I kept 7 of them in a 29 gallon until they were almost full grown. Their maximum size is 4 to 5 inches, depending on the individual fish. This is a picture of them after moving to my big community tank.
On the other hand, a very active fish at only 1 1/2 inches long might well feel crowded in a tank that size although in theory you could keep lots of them based on the water volume and surface area. In short, size is only one of many factors that must be taken into account when stocking fish.
