24 X 12 X 15 Inch Rimless And Braceless Tank £60

Well i got the 30 x 12 x 12 rimless and bracless, looks like it could be combination of 6mm and 10 mm glass, it was 23.99 without the hood, hood was 10.99. Yes i know i said i was gettin 24 x 12 x 12 but the didnt have it so i thought i'd go larger (you always want a bigger one than what youve got anyway :hey: )

All i have to do now is find out how to use the digital camera, the software and load the picture up, i will wait till boyfriend gets home, hes better at these things.

P.s yes it has a gaurantee, i have filled the tank and it looks very sturdy, i have noticed the shop are using the same brand in all different sizes and all their tanks look fine, no bowing

Good luck gettin a bargain.

so this tank just has 5 pieces of glass and nothing else?

Yes its just 5 pieces of glass, there are little glass shelves for lid but they dont support the structure. Unfortunately i have to have these cos i am getting an axolotl and i dont want it climbing out.

As far as i am aware all the LFS tanks are bought from Peak Aquatics, dont know if they sell direct though.

The seal is very neat and quality of glass/ seal is excellent, believe me i wouldnt buy anything that wasnt up to scratch, i am very house proud

Here is their website if you want to investigate further. I think they make to measure actually

Qoute from their site:

Peak Aquatics Ltd are the largest manufacturer of glass aquariums in the U.K. We carry a comprehensive range in stock and can produce non-standard sizes to customer specifications on demand. All our aquariums are manufactured to O.A.T.A standards. Both standard and non-standard aquariums can be drilled and incorporate dividers to customer requirements.

You see there you go, some of us do not want anything like that on the front of the tank so that ties in with what I have found normally from these glass tanks you buy from aquatics shops. Slightly thicker bottom glass, glass shelves.

Yes but you dont have to have the shelves just have one made up, the store i shop in offers loads of variations, never asked about without supports cos i new i needed em. Looks like peak aquatics will make one up for yer, give em a ring.

holy cow ive just had a look at their website, they are soooooooooo expensive i wouldnt dream of paying over £100 for a tank that size

BTW, u know them ""little shelves" that you have on yours. Well i asked if they can be taken off. Like you said, they are only for the lid.

NO NO, they are what stop the tank front bowing!! They are a supporting structure and therefore brace the tank! The tank makers will not make a 24 x 12 x 15 without them on.

This is what we ment, your tank is the same as every other unfortunately, it is not braceless.

Good luck with it tho.
Chris

Hiya,
I'm following this thread with interest. When you mention Juwel braces, is it just the plastic at the bottom that braces the tank or does the lid do anything as well?

Thanks,
Chris

Well at the bottom of the tank the silicone is a lot thicker which might have something to do with it, I would suspect the bowing is acceptable to juwel as if the lid was tight enough to prevent bowing you would not be able to take it off when the tank is filled. So the weak point to juwel is the bottom area of the tank which is probably why they add the black trim, to hide the thicker black silicone and to give it a bit of support too.

Any tank above the rekord range has a plastic brace, which seems to point towards depth, front to back, anything about 35cm I think they would want to brace it in some way.

As I've pointed out the tanks you buy in the aquarium shops have those lips on them to stop the bowing on the front of the tanks. I removed those lips when I bought a cheap two footer and found it bowed quite a bit.

This is the point i am trying to make, it's very hard to get a tank that uses clear silicone that is rimless and braceless unless you get someone to make it for you in which case you have to trust them and you may not get a guarantee. This is why I am saying we should get our tanks from the german ADA manufacturers on Aquaessentials if we want something to is truely braceless and rimless.

OK the way I look at it is this, you can buy a Fluval Uno 600 this tank is to all intents and purposes braceless and rimless, but it has a black trim on the bottom. Now with it you get a heater, light, filter and heater, as well as some plastic plants, meds and tapwater conditioner etc, a tub of food also. This costs about £139, if I bought that I wouldn't use the filter or light or anything I would just use the tank and maybe the heater, so based on that the special ADA german tanks aren't that expensive, the construction is very high and the glass is of an extremely high quality. So that is why I personally would pump for the Aquaessentials tank.

Hi Chris

Have you tried Windsor (TFF sponsors). I was quoted about £130 for a braceless, rimless 48x18x18 (12mm float glass, clear silicon). They can even fit high-clarity glass, to replace the front panel add 30%. You'll be paying a premium for all panels high-clarity though so you'd probably be better off going the the AE German tank.

Just a thought, not that I'm trying to do Richard out of business, I'm sure you'll spend any savings with AE anyway!

not that I'm trying to do Richard out of business

lol, it's probably giving him more buisness, 'cos once you've bought a larger tank where you gonna get your ADA substrate from? :) What about your CO2 equipment? It really makes me wonder why no other shop has started importing ADA stuff as there's deffinitely a huge market out there for it.

Thanks,
Chris
