23 Dead Fish Yesterday Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Make That 25

im now even more convinced that i have a boy i tried all day yesterday to get a pic of them (bettas) but it was impossible and i had trouble finding them all still not managed it
every where i looked 4 more dead fish appeared from under it

none of the dead fish have any fins left one even had a bit of his tummy missing

so heres what i did last night before bed i caught as many as i could find and put them together there was one that didnt bar so im assuming maybe thats my male seperated him/her over night and this morning i have no dead fish

is there anyone who can tell me specfic things to look for to identify weather this is a male or not

if it is i will be marching him straight back to the fs where i got him and tell them they sold him to me underforce pretences and that they should replace all the fish i lost (tetras)

THAT SUCKS... would have driven me mad. My males are fine with platies and bristlenoses so ???

OK ok a male you will find that the ventrals are thicker, brighter and a little bit longer than on the females. His dorsal may appear a different shape, if he is young it may looks pointy like a triangle. His colour will be allot more intense and his body shape will be just a little different, more chunky. When he flares he will have a much bigger beard and flaps that extend from under the gills. He will also be allot more agressive towards the others. His anal fin will be very clean cut goin intop a sharp point near the tail, all lines verry straight on his fins.

These are just pointers, you do get males that avaoid some of these, some that have egg spots and some that just look so female.

The one that has not barred up, show him/her a mirror and tell us what he/she does.

We really can't tell from the photos, they are blurred and don't show the bits we need to see. At any rate you should get your fish replaced, forking out $3 or 4 for every dead fish will be several hundred dollars worth and you shouldn't pay it. It's not your fault this happened.

People who do stuff like this make me really mad. They sell fish without thinking about the welfare of the fish involved. It sucks finding fish dead, it sucks having to restock the tank, it sucks having to pay for it. But what about the fish that all died?

i know tell me about it im sooo unbelievably angry my poor little fish i have now seperated all the bettas from the other fish and i am going to take them to my normal lfs and get him to id them for me i only went to the other stupid shop because someone recomended it to me once i have an id on the fish im going straight to that shop and tellling them exactly what they can do about it

they were stupid when i was getting the fish they had boys and girls in the same tank anyway (veiltail boys) the girls and boys were both ripped to shreds i asked for female bettas and they were like whats a betta i culdnt believe it they were not even just a pet shop they were a proper aquarium shop

and they knew that tetras were going in the same tank because i bought them at the same time and they put them in the same stupid bag

I was thinking that Keeley was male too. Dont know about Fawn though, the picture is too blurry.

right quick update people i took all the fish down to my lfs and he had a look he said there were 3 he wasnt sure of chealsea, keeley and fawn so now they are all in seperate places and im watching to see what happens i went back to THAT shop and told them that they are to replace what i lost and that i should be compensated for the bettas that i bought and that i was fuming angry and they said (after about half hour of me ranting ) that they would do as i asked i also told them to remove there male vt's from there supposedly female tanks and stood and watch them do it to make sure it actually happened not much better thou they were gonna put him in a tank full of neons and i was like what are you doing he cant go in there either did you not hear what i was saying ALL MY TETRAS WERE KILLED and they were just like oh yeah

im picking up some of the fish tomorrow because i have come home to work out exactly what i have lost

checked my tank earlier and found another 5 dead so now were at 30 dead fish i think its just crazy

Have you tested the tank lately for ammonia or nitrites? I would be worried that all those deaths would cause an ammonia spike. This may also be killing your fish.

had it tested when i took the fish to be id'd thought it would be on the safe side to have it tested by someone who knew more than me lol everything is fine infact he said my waters perfect found another few dead since my last post they appeared whilst i was doing a water change hidden under bogwood and stuff my tank looks so empty now i had just got it looking the way i liked it

get this one of the dead fish that i have since found is in the tank that i put the GIRLS in the one's that are supposed to be girls anyways and it was the biggest one if (cherry) if anything i thought she would be able to look after herself she was the only one i didnt take pics of

its soo flustrating
