20gallon Journal - Updated Daily - Indir

Yep i even put 4 times the food amount i used to, just once though lol. Just to be sure it would go down haha. But yes im pretty sure its cycled now :) It has been constant at 0 since i went nuts that first time WD :D hehe.

Im going to try and find Apistogramma cacatuoides (cockatoo dwarf cichlids) as they are the most peaceful that i see. May even get lucky breeding :D How many should i go for? 1 male to 2 females or 1 for 1? Random sites are ALL different to eachother with all details lol

Regards,
Indir

1 male to 2 females IMHO, but I have seen pairs work as well.

Most your dwarf cichlids do better being added later on, same as the DG's and BN's. Cracking fish though. Apistogramma Agasissi is a loverly fish also IMO

They look alot like cockatoo dwarf cichlids rabbut. Ill take a look at LFS today and see which dwarf cichlids they have :D

Im going to be getting 3 of them, 1 male and 2 females. Gonna find some hair grass and java moss if i can also. Give them plenty of hiding space too, and if they breed the babies have spaces to hide also :D

Water update 12 hours after previous:
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 40

Ok heres the latest update, 12 hours after the last:
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 40
PH = 7.4

Going to get my fish tomorrow after work. Saw two BNs that are cheap and look healthy and great. And a whole bunch of leopard danios. Cant wait to get them. Still not sure if ill go for dwarf gouramis (everyone seems to say they die in a few months due to diseases) or the cockatoo dwarf cichlid (cant find it anywhere).

Are bolivian butterflys/rams a nice addition to a tank? Been looking around and they seem pretty good looking fish.

Regards,
Indir

yes rams are another dwarf cichlid, they can be a touch more agressive than the cockatoo's but not majorly so.

I think it'd be fine although if you end up with an agressive BN and an agressive Ram (both not the norm but not unheard of) then you'd have to re-arrange your decor ideas to give them deperate territories and caves.

Thank you very much for the help everybody. Ive gotten some fish, 8 danios and 2 smallish BN's.
Ill post some pictures soon, need to shower, had my hair cut lol.

Water has stayed stable the past 24 hours (tested every 12 hours):
Ammonia = 0
Nitrite = 0
Nitrate = 10

How often should i test the water and for how long now that i have some fish in there?

Regards,
Indir

every day for the first week or two to make sure the cycle has worked. when you're confident ammonia and nitrite are stable you can just test once a week when you do your maintenance. once the tank is mature i.e. a good few months of stable readings you can relax it further but that's your choice, some people test religiously every single week, i just test when i think somethings wrong as i'm reasonably confident i can spot any problems that may lead to poor water. some people balancing it by just tesing once a month or something like that. you'll find what works for you when you've a little more experience under your belt.

Congrats Indir, Make sure you do get some pics up.
Can't help you in reguards to the other fish you want but I was under the impression the Dwarf Gourami thing was only a UK thing. I guess UI depends on where your LFS gets their stock from.

I personnaly am going to test for as long as I can to make sure the fish arn't exposed to any blips that might happen while I'm getting used to the whole fish keep ing thing. Last thing that I want is to kill some fish.

Good luck

Thanks MW. Im uploading the pictures of the female BN, cant get a picture of the boy. And a video of the danios stealing my BN's algae tablet lol. I have given the male BN the name 'Emilio', as in the guy from the movie Mr Deeds. Anyone know of him? I never see Emilio, and his very sneaky sneaky :p

Regards,
Indir

EDIT: Didnt see you post Thommo. Thanks very much mate, im waiting for the pictures to be uploaded. Got a video o f the danios coz their WAY to quick for a picture, and i cant see Emilio enough to get a picture. i get my phone out to take a picture and his back in the chest lol.

From the bit of research ive done it doesnt say its country specific. Just that their prone to this disease all together :S Will have to keep looking as they are very pretty fish. And i cant find the dwarf cichlids around my area :(

Hope ill be able to see some babies from BNs hehe :D Anyone know the size before they are breedable? My female is about 6cm, and the male is about 7 (approximately from rough estimations lol)

Pictures (Video of danios will be up soon. taking its time to upload though lol :) ):

hey indir just told me his female bristlenose catfish is on the heater in the tank. should she be removed or left as she is just cleaning? will it or could it burn her?

Love the BN indir.

Hey Indir,

I have heard of BN burning themselves ion the heater as they are too silly to know when to get off. Not sure what to do about it though.
