Justy a tank I've been growing crypts and a few others off, will be for dwarf puffers once someone takes livebearers of my hands.

Why not just add the dwarf puffers in with the livebearers? You could do this as an experiment to finally figure out how long puffers can tolerate tank mates!
Instead of getting rid of the other fish, you could easily freeze them and thaw them out later as food for larger fish.

6 platties would be a snack for my oscar and bichir, no point in freezing them.
